these are the ones I use on my M6. Cheap enough to buy a couple of sets. I usually bring my wheels to the tire shop. I dont trust many folks these days working on cars older than they are!

Re: Close Call, Just Lucky. or Neither
Like others, I am a long time BMW owner and have been using Deltran chargers/maintainers for many years with no issues. Jump starting or high amp "boost" may be a concern, and by keeping the battery charged you don't have to resort to those methods.

Re: 1988 635csi starts then won't restart after running a few minutes
When it fails to start, that is the time to start testing and diagnosing. Everything else is a guess, and throwing parts at it. This is a good article for testing the system. Once you read through a few times, it will begin to make sense and seem a lot less complicated. FWIW, my reference sensor tes...

Re: Buying an alternator?
I vote for trying to rebuild it. I havent had good luck with the big box stores and you may end up giving up yours as a core. We used to have local shops that rebuilt alternators and starters but they are long gone. I have rebuilt a couple with success. May just need a voltage reg. Get a Bosch numbe...

Re: OEM Style Rear Muffler
A few years ago I bought an OEM muffler for my 87 m6. Cheapest place was the dealer as I didnt have to pay shipping. It had to be shipped from Germany.

Re: No Power, Running Super Rich
My mechanic did test the pressure at the rail. I don't remember what the pressure was, but I do recall him putting a guage on it and being happy with the result. We pulled all of the injectors, checked to make sure none were stuck open, and looked for spray pattern. Does that mean you had the injec...

Fuel pressure regulator on fuel rail? I had one go bad causing too much pressure and very poor running except with wide open throttle.

Not sure exactly what you have tested but have you gone through this article? https://hpsimotorsports.com/blogs/tech-articles/bosch-motronic-fuel-injection-tech-article See my m6 no start thread. I just went through this, it can be frustrating, especially if you are grasping. Mine turned out to be f...

Re: Crank, no start.
Just went through this. I suggest going through the posted troubleshooting article. According to the article my reference sensors tested bad. Replaced them and still no start. Not sure why my testing didnt match the article. That article is very good once you go through it several times. Turned out ...

If it turns out it is the injectors, I wont feel too bad as I have learned a lot about the Motronic system. It isnt as scary as I thought.

Re: 87 m6 no start
After a lot of rechecking I have narrowed it down to fuel injectors. I pulled them and dropped them off to be cleaned. Fingers crossed that is the issue. I am getting fuel to the rail. Power to the injectors. Spark to the plugs and it will run for a short time with starting fluid. Clogged injectors ...

Re: Fuel Rail Leak
Not only do you have to worry about water issues (phase seperation) with Ethanol fuel, but ethanol is a solvent. All those years of using regular fuel leaves a varnish in the tank and the lines. The ethanol cleans up that varnish putting into the system as gunk cloogging stuff up. I would not use Et...

Re: 87 m6 no start
Not making any progress. Replaced speed/reference sensors and it's not starting. Rechecked all electrical and everything checks out. Relays, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, wiring, etc. I put a timing light on a plug wire and I appear to be getting spark. I removed the fuel filter and main pump....

Re: SRS light
A few random thoughts: You could just remove the bulb. That is what I found on a car I purchased! Now, I always check the lights when the key is turned on when looking at a car. You may want to try removing the battery lead for a while to try and clear the memory. Doubtful that will work. You could ...

Re: Fuel Rail Leak
Thanks Emac, Yes, I have already had all of the injectors cleaned, rebuilt and flow-checked. The car has only done about 20 miles since I refitted the refurbished injectors, so I am a little confudsed as to why I have a leak. Cheers, Ian Ian, that really sucks. If they replaced all the seals, it co...

Re: Fuel Rail Leak
The injector has a seal top and bottom, it is just pushed into the fuel rail to make the seal. A metal clip holds it together. It may be a good time to just pull off the fuel rail and get the injectors cleaned and new seals. I did this recently on an older pcar that had been sitting. A local guy cle...

Re: 87 m6 no start
Did some testing and it appears the reference and speed sensors have bit the dust. Weird both of them are testing bad, but I quadruple checked them and they failed the test based on the article. Both sensors are stamped with BMW, so they may be original. I will post up results when the new ones arri...

87 m6 no start
I haven't run my car for a few months and needed to move it today and it wouldn't start. Cranks over fine, but not firing up. I haven't dug into it yet. Most everything is pretty new. Both fuel pumps, recent new relays, etc. I did disconnect the fuel return line at the the pressure relief valve and ...
