Re: odometer stopped

They gave me defective gears (was missing the spacer on one of them). I picked them up at their shop, I had my speedometer with me and they installed the gears on the counter while I was there. (As you know, it takes 5 minutes once the speedo is out of the car). It stopped working 2 miles later. The...

Re: odometer stopped

Spend the extra few dollars for the odometergears.com gears. You are guaranteed quality with those, and you won’t have to take your dash apart multiple times to get it right.

The garagistic ones are trash. Been there and done that.

Re: Adding Lambda Control to a Euro ECU

Hi Scott, I PM’d you!

How’s the project going? Have you had it made into a circuit board yet, or is it still in the breadboard stage?

Re: Adding Lambda Control to a Euro ECU

Awesome! So happy to see those pieces serving some good. Also really interesting to see all those bits put together by the hands of a pro. Impressive. I still have a duplicate set somewhere around. After tinkering around with it a bit, I quickly realized that my odds of making it come anywhere near ...

Works exactly the same on a Motronic car, right?

Re: Using a Cat With a Non-Cat ECU

I see the links are now all dead. I have recently updated this circuit, and will publish a revised FAQ soon. I am planning to fab this on a PCB, so those who are interested can contact me for the details. Scott Scott, glad to see you’re back on this! I’ve sent you an email, I’m still interested in t...

Re: Stereo upgrade.

The new Bremen is arguably overpriced a bit.

But it’s pretty darn cool! And when paired with an amp (it has pre amp outputs so it’s clean and easy) it sounds really good. There’s nothing else on the market quite like it for 80s cars.

I managed to pick one up a while back for around $380.

Re: 1980 Power Steering - is mine working correctly?

IMO if you are questioning whether it’s too hard to turn, and if you can’t easily turn it with one hand, something is wrong.

It should pretty much feel like most modern sporty cars. Or like your friend’s E28. When working properly no one would say an E24 is “hard” to turn.

Re: AC not getting cold

You have to get a set of gauges on it and check pressures to see what’s going on.

Re: Remove centre console panel

Yes, not sure about an automatic.

I’d guess the automatic handle and the surround can be removed from above (the equivalent of taking the shift boot off on a manual), that would make sense. But that’s just a guess.

Re: Remove centre console panel

It’s not easy to get that panel out. You have to remove the whole console, like in the picture. But, you can easily replace the cig lighter unit without removing the panel. Just lift off the shift boot, and you can reach under and get behind the cig lighter unit and push it out. (That applies to the...

Re: additional air slide valve - checking off car?

Thank you, Jubilados, that's really helpful. I know what you mean about the apparent interchangeability, but I was running like a bag of nails at idle with the M valve (in full working order) - a rich-running bag of nails that smelled of petrol, too! I'll try the freezer trick, would be nice to hav...

Re: additional air slide valve - checking off car?

I’ve done a bunch of work/experimentation with that valve. Some things I’ve learned. There’s a million different part numbers for that piece, but they’re all basically the same and other than maybe some very odd applications, they are interchangeable. As long as it’ll bolt to the car (and they seem ...

Thanks for the info.

Is the downpipe in the picture grnshrk posted for a M30B34 (1986 635)?

Because if so, that’s exactly what I looking for.

Do you know what those down pipes are from? I’m actually not 100% sure what the M30B34 pipes are supposed to look like.

WTB: Stock exhaust manifolds and downpipes

Looking for stock exhaust manifolds and the downpipes up to the cat (I’ll be welding in a new cat).

So, like this:

Just the Dow pipes would be ok too.

I can pick up in So Cal, but shipping is ok too.

Makes sense to proactively replace 20+ year old relays.
What’s the part number for the main relay you used?
