Blackstar gauges

I like 'em! Oil temp adapter problematic, so have not installed, otherwise looking good, I reckon. Failed to fix my fan speed switch - physically stuck so that it won't turn off fully. Managed to snap off a tang on one of the heater control sliders using the "stick my hand through the radio slo...

Re: M30 tensioner piston

Just pulled the trigger - min $135 spend for UK orders - before it gets really expensive with shipping, then import duty at this end, but very happy that I'm not reinstalling parts that are very clearly worn. Have ordered the rest of tensioner assembly already. No witness marks/appreciable wear on r...

Re: M30 tensioner piston

That is really useful - thank you.

They don't ship to UK for orders under $135, but I dare say there must be some other bits needed!

Re: M30 tensioner piston

Thank you Tom, That's very kind, but I suspect it might be very much like the spares I have - all four are pretty much like this. I dare say this won't be a huge problem, but it seems a huge shame to refit a worn part when replacing everything else. I've got a horrible feeling this might go NLA - I ...

M30 tensioner piston

Hi chaps, The above part, Tensioner piston 11311744347, is on back order and will not be available until the end of May at the earliest. I don't suppose anyone has an unworn one they'd be willing to sell? Mine is both scratched and unevenly worn on the end that bears against the rail. Many thanks, R...

Re: Rod cap bearing orientation

Thanks Tom, That’s really reassuring. I don’t think this m90 has been apart, so that makes perfect sense. Nice to know this engine is correct - the other spare b34 with the wrong orientation is also the one with oversize pistons and standard rings- I don’t think it was the best reconditioning ever s...

Rod cap bearing orientation

Hi chaps, I'm getting conflicting information on the orientation of the rodcaps. The B34 bottom end had the tangs aligned - confirmed with witness marks on the rods themselves. I've just pulled a piston on the M90 to see about having new rings made and the tangs are at opposing ends - please see pic...

Re: Anti-roll (sway) bars

I hear you!

I was worried that I'd turn my six into a skateboard: M5 bars front and rear, with M6-spec Bilsteins (not the way the M5 did it, with the softer Boge dampers - as you probably know)...
...but it's great! handles and rides really well.

Re: Anti-roll (sway) bars

I see you're in the UK, I've got a few spare arbs here, mostly 19mm front; 15.5mm rear. What are you hoping from new bars? My car has the E28 M5 bars - 25mm front, 18mm rear. These need different bushes at the front and reinforcing at the back... although I ran mine with poly bushes at first and the...

Re: 1979 635CSi Euro - Henna Revival Project

That is so cool. I like the neatness of the idea of spring cutting - I assume S1 front struts are similar, but the aftermarket springs I've seen for the S2, including those on my car, do not have the same number of turns as the originals, meaning the angled topmount is at a funny angle. This used to...

Thank you so much Ralph, you're the Hannibal Smith of bigcoupe.com! Knowing that the B34 pistons don't offer much of an improvement is the missing bit of info I needed. Thanks to Phil on the forum, I already have a highline (i.e.E24 B35) downpipe and system. Port matching B34 head to keep high compr...

Looking good in black! "Dogleg Gearbox" an odd error to make, especially anchored to the image of the H pattern gearknob! Really compelling ad though.

B35 head on Euro B34

I know there is a wealth of internet wisdom on the above, albeit lots of contradiction. Could I ask for your thoughts on the options available with the spare engine that I'm rebuilding with a view to sticking in my 635? By way of background, here's what I have got - and it has taken me way too long ...

Hi chaps, Direct question: does anyone have a lead on availability of +.05mm oversize rings? 92,470MM(+0,50) 11251714386 Lead time from ML performance has increased to "we don't know when!" One of the top rings has an end gap of 2.65mm, one of the reasons why the po didn't have much joy wi...

Thanks Ralph,

Just trying to work out what I've got!

Took head off today - turns out I have oversize pistons (92,47mm) in highline (B35) block with E34 B35 head. Problems caused by mis-matched rings!

Re: Engine block numbering - what year is this?

Still don't know what year this is, but the "35" means it's definitely a B35. Bearing in mind that I am in the UK, I still can't work out the difference in the B35 Highline vs B34 block...if there is a difference. Research says crank and rods are the same...so the obvious difference would ...

Re: M30 engine block compatibility

If you do go down the cheaper/riskier route of buying a replacement engine, bear in mind that the B35 block in the E24 highline is different from that used in the E34/E32. Basically, you won't have the correct bosses to fit the engine mounts. Hope you get it sorted. I'm about to pull the head off my...
