I used IRON-X on the inside of my rims. First time I've ever cleaned there.
Seriously?!?!?
Regrettably yes
This is a great product and wish I'd heard about it years ago. Here's proof that it works. But it did take 6 or 7 applications/scrub cycles to get it clean.

Re: Slow oil seep from front of engine

Another less likely culprit is the A/C compressor which can have a seal failure dumping the lube.

Re: 1985 BMW 635 CSi power steering pressure hose wanted

Put the last 7 numbers of your VIN into realoem.com and you will get parts diagrams, part numbers etc. Ignore the prices as they may or may not reflect current msrp. This will help you source new hoses. Based on those hose clamps, it looks like someone did some work on the brake lines. Happy hunting...

Zip Wall for dust control

Watching Song's respray project and thinking about dust control, this product came to mind: zip wall. It only works, however if you have a proper ceiling.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Put the rear up on stands to check my muffler problem and my failing diff mount. Look like the indy repair shop uses the later, taller mount many years ago. I used IRON-X on the inside of my rims. First time I've ever cleaned there. The stuff is great but multiple applications is needed to get the r...

Re: JB Weld Extreme Heat

Yesterday, I took down the aluminum shield covering the pipes just before the rear muffler. There is also a hole between where the two pipes enter the rear muffler. I think I will reinforce the JBWeld with some copper or stainless steel mesh as the rear muffler is NLA. Anyone with good experience wi...

Why would you even consider a "good used" pressure hose? Take the hose to a local hydraulic service shop and have them rebuild it with the ends or go to our usual suspects: FCP, Bav, eEuroparts, Pelican, Rockauto, etc. Beware the inferior brands, though.

Re: SI Board Lithium batteries

From limited experience with capacitors ("caps") in stereo equipment, they have a finite life and failure can sometimes be spotted by bulging sides and ends. If you "re-cap" the board, go for the highest quality and highest temperature ratings. Nichicon comes to mind and there are a number of youtub...

JB Weld Extreme Heat

I need to patch a hole in the front of the rear muffler where the twin mid pipes enter. Anyone have any experience with JB Weld Extreme heat? At this point is it more of a hair line fracture, and welding rust isn't feasible. I would, of course, scrape and sand any loose material before the repair.

Re: Water Pump e24 Cast iron vs pressed steel impeller

I'd be curious about the drain and replace cycle for your antifreeze given the corrosion on the impeller. I read an interesting sales pitch for a power flush device for cooling systems that promotes the idea that floating corrosion particles cause the wear on the pump bearing leading to leaks and fa...

Re: Radiator: BMW brand vs. aftermarket?

I had read somewhere that they have a cheaper line for the aftermarket/DIY market. I'm guessing the difference is thinner material, leading to a shorter life span. Do you have the original to count and compare the cooling tubes? That may be the answer....

It's cheaper to replace the rotor than to suffer tracking inside the cap. "Mind the Gap" applies here.

Great document. The only two suggested changes are to add a date column to the version control so that each addition is specifically dated and under maintenance, a brief comment on appropriate hydraulic fluid.

Remember that dielectric grease PREVENTS current flow and is an insulator. You might consider Boeshield which is a spray-on protectant

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

I was quoted for a full repaint, glass out in Bronzit of $10,000 for labor (including some body and rust repair work) plus $5,000 for materials and $5,000 for misc. parts. I would never consider DIY on painting, especially primer, base and clears. This was not from your typical body shop but a resto...
