Song. Very carefully apply some heat from a map gas or similar on that pesky joint.

Re: Scissor hoists

The Qickjack would be too low for me at only 500mm maximum lift. Another issue is any lift would need to be in Perth as it's exorbitant to ship. Going down to check out the AAQ one in a few days.

Scissor hoists

Just wondering what experiences people have with mid lift scissor hoists ? I have a lot of work to do yet on LOCUTUS so need something better than trolley jacks and stands. Was looking at this one; http://www.aaq.net.au/product/autolift-al-3060-mid-rise-portable-scissor-hoist-for-domestic-applicatio...

Re: OBC Remote Not Working...?

Hey Dave. Check that the combi switch when operated, is grounding out pin 4 (black wire) on the back of the OBC. If it is not, ground it out with a piece of wire, see what happens.

Wow, you have a nice stable ! Is she a 3.6 or 3.8 ?

This engine would be familiar to you, but maybe not the installation :D

Good news Ken, glad the surgery went well. Also thinking of you too Nigel, best wishes to you mate from Down Under. My father had his check up that I wrote about and no sign of recurrence fortunately.

Re: Finally Time to hit the road..

She looks fantastic. What is it about these cars that just seems to eat up time ? Do you have pictures of your E4 M5 ? I have the S38B36 in my E24 now. Beautiful engine.

Re: which computer drives the Check Engine light

"Looks right" doesn't mean they are. You need to start systematic testing. Do you own a multi-meter ? You have a known fault (no spark), start with that. Are you getting 12v at the 15 pin on the coil when ignition switch is in start/run position ? We can help you through if you test.

Re: Ex LOCUTUS the fun and pain begin

Thanks Ralph. Oh, I've already released the clutch, if only briefly :D I needed to make sure all the safety signals are properly connected before giving her a full head of steam. Finished mounting up the ECU and lengthening the brake pressure and overflow bottle level sensor wires today. I need more...

Re: Ex LOCUTUS the fun and pain begin

I forgot how much fun tinkering with this car could be. Bolted the ECU back in and started Tesa taping the harness. The C103 connector was rejoined (carries the engine RPM and fuel rate (econo gauge) signals). Tested tacho operation A OK. As you can see I mounted the overflow bottle on the right han...

Yep, I saw that on Ebay and it looks the goods. Thanks JPS. Today am sorting out instrument signals. Worked out the C103 connector match up to S38B36 harness and about to test.

Re: Ex LOCUTUS the fun and pain begin

Well, I finally have news to report on this long running project. LOCUTUS is up and running with the S38B36 and back at home. Lots still to do with harness, cluster signals, A/C, and so forth. I'm here to report that the S38B36 is smoooooooth and powerful, so lots of good cruising to be had in the f...

Re: Completely confused as to why my engine isn't running right

Other tests to throw in to the mix;

1) Make sure you have continuous 12v at pin 18 of the ECU.Check for ignition power at pin 35.
2) Check operation of injectors with a noid light.

Re: Completely confused as to why my engine isn't running right

You can test the switching action of the ECU with a test light on to terminal 1 of the coil. Test for continuity between coil terminal 1 and ECU terminal 1. Make sure the shielding of this wire is in place and effectively grounded at one end.

Is the idea of that lift to enable tall jack stands to be placed ? By itself seems like it would make access to many underside parts hard.

Re: Adding a battery charger connection inside the fuel filler door

Running the 13.8v leads into the boot and shutting it will provide no risk, even if you drive off. The Cteks are well protected. Far less risk than installing inside the fuel flap.

Re: Gonna be gone for a while

Hang in there mate. My father goes in for testing (for recurrence) tomorrow so hoping it is all gone. One very important thing to note here is that they caught this early. They caught it early because my father happened to mention to my mother that he saw a small amount of blood in his urine. Mum ma...
