Re: Fuel Tank Breather

Thanks Chaps, Sorry, I should have said - my car is a RHD European (UK) spec. So, no charcoal canisters etc. :) Parts 8 and and 12 look like the ticket, thanks. Where is the expansion tank and how much 11mm tubing will I need to replace the 3x pipes (which I assume hook up to the tank?). I want to r...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Yes! Last week I spoke to the chap I take all my classics for MOT testing about this issue as he is a classic car/bike nut too. I explained that I had replaced all the braking components, including the ABS unit, bled the system a number of times (in conjunction with cycling the Bosch ABS valves/pump...

Fuel Tank Breather

Evening All, As well as the inline fuel pump and filter I intend to replace all the fuel pipes and hoses. I have just ordered the feed and return pipes, as well as suitable hoses/clips etc but I would like to replace the tank breather system too. However, looking at RealOEM I am struggling to work o...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Thanks for all your ongoing input chaps, very much appreciated. However, I would be pretty surprised if my issue was the hoses; I had them custom built by BF Goodrich out of their top of the range, racing stainless braided pipes and fittings. I have fitted these pipes to quite a few cars over the ye...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

So, another afternoon / evening fettling with E24 brakes in the workshop and I have the whole system, including new ABS unit bled with premium synthetic Dot4. The good news is that new switch box I put together worked a treat and when combined with my pressurised brake bleeding system, allowed me to...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

I managed to find a breaker with a (relatively) low mileage E23 which uses the same 008 Bosch unit as the E24. £60 quid later a very good looking ABS unit was in my workshop. I gave it a thorough clean-up, flushed it through with fresh DOT4 and cleaned all the electrical connectors and it looks as g...

Re: Roof Trim Clips

Thanks Janbers, Not according to my local BMW dealer and the parts guy there is a classic enthusiast who always goes the extra mile for me. However, that's not to say he is right this time. Is there another part number for these? The number from RealOEM for the 635 is NLA according to his system but...

Roof Trim Clips

Hi All, Along the full length of the roof, on each side from A-pillar to the C-pillar, above the door openings , there is a gutter. On these gutters there is a 3-piece black trim and where the sections meet, there are black spring steel clips covering the joins. I am missing 2 of these clips. Have a...

Re: E24 / E23 ABS Pump/Valve Assembly

Thanks Ron! According to Real OEM the part numbers are: 34511154995 superseding 34511150357 I have been offered a 'known good' e28 m535i ABS unit for £100 and on RealOEM the drawings appear identical but part number is different (34511155051, although this might be down to the cover) so I don't know...

E24 / E23 ABS Pump/Valve Assembly

Hi All,

I need an ABS unit for my M635CSI restoration project. It uses the same pump as all the E24 series, as well as the E23. Anyone have a known good unit I can buy please? This is all that stands between me and getting the car back on the road.

Thanks,
Ian

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Based upon the fact that after following Nigel's procedure I appeared initially to have fixed the issue but it then reappeared I started researching ABS linked sinking pedal issues and found THIS LINK . As I have replaced everything in the whole braking system, tested and retested the MC, bled and r...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Finally got a chance to cycle the ABS system today, although it was not as elegant as Nigel's solution (a bit more Heath Robinson TBH) it worked well. All four corners cycled and bled, as per Nigel's excellent write-up. Whilst I was sceptical that this would fix my issues it was something I wanted t...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Cheers Brucey, I was wondering if it was worth introducing a little air into the closed circuit pipes I made to join the 2 outputs and repeating first. I.E to ensure there is a similar initial pedal movement to the point where the brakes are fully applied However, can any of you do me a favour pleas...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Thanks Brucey. Yes, that aligns with what I was thinking too. However, I was wondering if it was worth repeating the exercise but leaving a little air in the system so my pedal (i.e. MC) moves enough for the hydraulic boost to fully kick in and I can check this is not an issue of MC seals leaking un...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Thanks Nigel, that is a great write-up and nice piece of work. Thanks! So,I finally got to run Brucey's test today. I made up a pair of male to male short brake pipes, screwed them into the two outputs on the master cylinder and joined them together using a female to female connector. I bled the sys...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Hi Nigel, Any news on this please? I started a new job earlier this month so the brakes have been on hold (no pun intended). However, this weekend I plan to try Brucey's suggestion to connect the 2 outputs directly to try and eliminate any other potential factors. Before this I would like to cycle t...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

The eBay Seller was called: aj4151 but has long since disappeared. However, when I click on the url below i get taken to a page of the same plugs but a new seller name: asc_group It might be that the two are not linked and eBay are just sending me to a new, sponsored supplier who sells the same item...

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Hi Ian, I know what you mean by e-bay purchases! but it is a genuine ATE master cylinder which is the same as the one fitted from new by the factory, carries the same part number and came from a brake specialist company in Germany. I don't think it is fake but I do think it is faulty! cheers Nigel....

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

one test you could easily do is to make up a short line that just connects the output ports to one another and thus blanks the MC off. If (having been bled) the pedal still sinks then you have your answer about whether the MC is faulty or not. The accumulator seems to be working fine, from your des...

Thanks chaps,

I guess the only way forward is for me to buy another MC, just to see if the brand new BMW MC is faulty.

Re: Losing Brake Pedal When Engine Running

Today's workshop observations: In the vague (desperate) hope that re-bleeding the system might help, I enlisted the help of my wife and followed the BMW Workshop way: Attach reservoir pressurisation kit at <2bar. Press and hold brake pedal down. Attach bleed pipe/jar and open furthest bleed nipple....

Hi All, Apologies for the lack of response but I have been camping with the kids... Brucey: I will have a look for any signs of shredded rubber flecks in the oil and try to see if I can see any difference in the levels when I push the pedal with the engine running. BMW are saying two things at prese...
