Re: M88 Starter

You will have to remove the air filter housing (1 MAF connector, one mounting bolt and the flexible hose to the plenum), then the plenum chamber itself (hose on the top centre and bottom centre, plus the 6 throttle body flexible hoses). Once the plenum of off you can get easy access to the starter a...

Re: Hydraulic Ramps!

I guess they weigh so much because they are so chunky; this is seriously big, pickup truck-lifting stuff! I bought the bigger size because I restore all sorts of classics and who knows what will catch my eye next... These ramps can effectively lift a whole E24 on their own, I am definately going to ...

Hydraulic Ramps!

I just bought a set of THESE! https://www.cjautos.eu/v/vspfiles/photos/CR06XHD-2T.jpg Very well made and extremely robust (and damn heavy!). The box was on a pallet and listed as 100KG when it arrived so it needed a small fork lift to get it from the road to the workshop door. The ramps come as a ki...

Thanks Chaps!
I just burned the ISO to CD but it is a Win application, rather than a CDrom, so will need to check it on Windows machine. Ron, I don't suppose you have a link to an ISO for the schematics do you? :) (01560035852)

M653CSI Workshop Manual

Hi All,

I am trying to get hold of a workshop manual CD (01560036114) but my local dealer says he cannot get hold of them any more as they are NLA. Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere I might get a copy please?

Cheers,
Ian

Headlight washer pump wiring.

Hi all, I am restoring the LH engine bay wiring and there are two small loom legs under the washer bottle for which I need some help in identifying the last connectors / wires (picture below). I have the main washer pump (windscreen) and washer bottle level loom connections sorted but the second loo...

Re: m88/3 valve clearance adjust

I just checked mine, whilst I have the valve cover off for stripping and refinishing. Inlets were all 0,25 - 0.26mm Exhaust pretty much 0.28mm all along. My initial thoughts are to leave as is. They don't tap (obviously) or touch the piston crowns. OK, the valves will open a little wider and lift/cl...

Re: Fuel Pump Question

Thanks All,

To my surprise the BWM genuine lift-pump was almost the same as the price for after market pumps and they had it in UK stock for next day collection. With a 10% BMW owner's club discount it came in at around £270 so I ordered it.

Re: Rear Frame Bushing Removal Sucess.......

Interesting. Were they the yellow or black Powerflex?
I want to sharpen up the handling by replacing the suspension with new Bilsteins and bushes all round but I do not want to spoil the feel of the car. Is there a more compliant alternative compromise between OEM and Powerflex?

M635CSI Rear Silencer

Any of you guys out there have a standard M635CSI rear silencer suitable for an '85 UK car please? IE Item 3 onTHIS PAGE? Perhaps you have fitted a nice aftermarket exhaust and the old one is taking up valuable space in the shed....

Thanks,
Ian

Re: Centre Console, Between Seats

Pop off the two small covers on the top. This gives you access to the two rear mounting bolts. The front is simply held in place under the gearstick console so slide it backwards to remove.

Re: Rear Frame Bushing Removal Sucess.......

I am considering the full POWERFLEX set of bushes front and rear but after reading this thread I might end up paying for someone to fit them. Anyone know a tame Powerflex stockist/installer in the UK please?

Thanks Brucey, That seems to match up with what I see too. Re: M635 Air Con Compressor Belt Swap

Thanks Brucey, The problem is that the compressor does not have a lot of room to move so fitting a larger belt might mean that it cannot be tensioned properly so giving belt squeal when hitting the AC button. I managed by brute force to get the belt on using a stubby flat blade as a wedge and turnin...

Fuel Pump Question

Hi All, So, today, after my engine rebuild I got the motor filled with fluids but it failed to start. After some process of elimination stuff I found the fuel pump fuse had blown. So, with fuse 11 duly replaced, the engine burst into life and I got it running up to temperature. All was OK but I hear...

Re: M635 Air Con Compressor Belt Swap

Thanks Ron, I have a lovely new Rad, which thankfully is still in its box. :) However the aircon rad is still in place and I have no access to the RHS of the engine bay without moving the car. Is it possible to remove the compressor top mount from the underside or do I need to remove the bonnet? Che...

M635 Air Con Compressor Belt Swap

Hi All, I am replacing all the belts on the car with new BMW items. The tensioners are a great design, with sawtooth track above the slot and a toothed 19mm 'nut' that walks along the track until the belt is tensioned and then locked off with the 13mm on the other end of the coach bolt that goes thr...
