Yes e28/e24 interchange but note that the rear bar will be different for '83/'84 models due to the diff cover. Also bigger bars will require reinforcement to the chassis.

Yes for early style (bavaria) with bottom bolt does, with the spring and plate as pictured. The top bolt e28 version does not have any of those parts.

On a '78-'79 the CTS is located under the intake manifold with the jules verne device. It is behind and hard to access. So this makes it harder to measure and replace the CTS. I was able to attempt starting the car again and it fired up, although running a bit rough. I had to keep my foot on the gas pedal mostly in order to keep it idling.
