Re: ‘89 doesn’t shift into 4th gear (overdrive)
Just to be clear - when D is selected (and illuminated as normal), but you go over a bump or whatever and it extinguishes, does 3 light up instead or is nothing illuminated? Assuming the latter, I'd almost certainly be thinking in terms of a control unit issue, but that's only on the basis of my att...

Re: ‘89 doesn’t shift into 4th gear (overdrive)
If you're in Drive and all is normal, what happens if you select Sport or 1-2-3? All normal? But if it's having a funny turn and you do the same, does nothing happen? Or does 1-2-3 operate as it should, but for Sport it's as if you are in it already? And if your going along happily in D, and D is il...

Re: Normal coolant temperature
Is this new behaviour or has it been like this throughout your ownership? Swapping out the radiator and/or water pump would clearly be potential next steps, but I just wonder whether trying a different/new temp sensor might be worthwhile? On my own 635, in 30 years of ownership I don't think I've ev...

Re: Unknown wire in Left front wheel well.
Actually, they wear through and break the connection. The wear sensor when unworn completes the circuit. Breaking the circuit activates the brake lining warning. I'm not saying the above isn't correct, although my understanding has always been that on older BMWs like ours the warning light illumina...

Re: High idle
I'm sure there are others out there with all the info you might need in order to pinpoint the issue. In the meantime it would be worth doing a search for threads and posts under "idle control". I have an '88 635 Auto and I'm honestly not sure if an M6 shares essentially the same idle contr...

Re: High idle
Yesterday, when I started my '88 M6 from cold, the idle was around 2000 RPM. It was not until the temp. gauge showed fully warmed that the idle decreased to around 800. Is this normal cold start idle, or is something amiss? I'd say that's definitely not normal. What has it previously done at start ...

Re: Brembo brake conversion
I think I know a fair bit about brakes on a race car setup, but almost always that would involve a pedal box arrangement with twin master cylinders ie one exclusively for the fronts and the other for the rears. In that kind of situation a change in brake calipers on one of the axles would naturally ...

Re: FS UK RHD M635CSi #183
Before looking in detail, and given earlier positive comments, I expected to see a car in much better condition.
Shouldn't the current MOT state that it's had a new speedo ie that the odometer reading is not a true reflection of actual mileage?

I believe that others have quite successfully painted the covers in instances where they haven't been able to get hold of the correctly coloured originals. And similarly I guess with the sliders.

Re: Efficiency - MPG guage
Out of interest, what info would the ecu need/receive specifically to supply a value for the gauge to display? Would roadspeed and injector activity info be sufficient? As far as the fuel consumption and range values displayed on the "computer" are concerned, I guess there needs to be more...

Aren't they all related to the electric seat motors and memory module? Unless you have electrically heated seats too?

Do we know what causes the MC piston(s) to stick? Simply deterioration of the seals? Is there a repair kit, or does the complete unit always have to be changed?

Re: M6 Brakes sticking
Replaced with a new master cylinder. Happened away from home, so there was no other option. Got it. Ive seen people use the E32 MC instead of the E24 one due to price. Does anyone here have a reason to not use the one from the E32. I suspect the pedal will feel a little bit lighter as I am on an ot...

Re: M6 Brakes sticking
Although you say you've replaced the original calipers, it's most likely that you have one or more sticking caliper pistons. Wattsmonkey has told you how to try to narrow down which corner(s) is or might be where the problem is, but your feedback from that doesn't seem overly revealing - although, b...

My white '88 UK Highline is body colour below the lower trim strips and on the underside of the entire car. And that's 100% how it was supplied from new. I've owned the car from 1992.

Also there's something not quite right about the fit of the bonnet on the driver's side and the top plastic cover over the bumper has an unusual, albeit totally uniform, gap right across. Very sharp Phil! It is a very nice car but not perfect, for this price it should be, in my opinion. And there's...

I couldn't find the part no you quote (on RealOEM), but as far as I know the rear springs on an E24 and E28 are the same (although they are different on the M635).
