You didn't mention how much you can do yourself. If you're familiar with a wrench and a local member has OK'd the condition of both cars you could pay your friend for the lesser value car (a true test of character!) and keep both. Swap transmissions to make the most of all your parts! and the lesser...

Thanks for clearing that up. I'd be correct assuming these b35 engines are rare/unusual?
Again thanks.

b34 vs. b35

Maybe this is a simple question but what's the difference between a M30b34 and M30b35 and, for that matter, the Euro (M90?) engine. The head (and associated parts) are quite different on an S38 but is there anything in common with any of others?
Thanks,
Dick

Agree..Resonators the likely culprit here. My V-8 experience similar to Scott. Great minds think alike (and fools seldom differ). Still interested in results.

As I brush the dust off the old memory neurons..... An X-pipe of the same dia. is the best form of balance pipe on a dual exhaust system ( as opposed to H shaped, etc.) and it has little or no effect on HP. The primary benefit is a small increase in low and mid-range torque. It is most effective on ...

As close to the front as is practical for fabrication should work best.

Anyone tried steel vs. aluminum back-to-back. What difference do you get in ride quality, compliance over rough roads etc. The difference in unsprung weight should help but a couple of people's experiences would be nice to hear.

M5 parts

You've probably beaten this to death but I've seen reference to using suspension and brake components from M5 and 750i models (E32 and E34 ...though I keep forgetting which is which). It so happens I have a 91 M5 (less drivetrain) and an 88 750i. both cars were bought for a project and now are willi...

Which way to go

Hello, Im new to your planet. For a long time I couldn't decide on a project. I came across an ad for a 1991 M5 without drivetrain. I'd always like the looks of these cars so.... My brother had bought an 850i with six-speed (most are automatics) and I rather enjoyed the M70 12 cylinder engine - not ...

Either way looks good but maybe you should let your kidneys decide..

We should all have these kinds of problems!!!

See if you can live with the Alpinas as they look best and then keep the BBS's in the garage, attic, basement or anywhere with low feminine traffic.

Best of luck,

Welcome. Nice car. In the Netherlands it must be a challenge to park such a relatively large car. If my cousin's garage (~Gouda)is normal, openning the doors could be a challenge too.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Finding this site and the wealth of knowledge it contains is openning a world of (way too many) options. Up here in the Great White North we're soon going to be dealing with winter. It's rarely so cold that the parts stick to your fingers but without a heated shop (...

I've got a high mileage '85 635CSi and access to an M70 if I want it. The possibilities are interesting. I'm curious to know if your using the 750 computers and the drive-by-wire throttle. My brother keeps prodding me to do this. He has an 850i with factory 6-speed manual. Most 850's are automatics ...

Not all turbo kits are created equal and like you I have(more than) a few ideas to explore - it all comes down to flow... and yes, I can do the math although the last time was 1979 or so (for a 900 Kawasaki). One thing I haven't the time or experience for is porting the head. I'm not looking for hug...

Yes. turbocharging is high on my list but not many systems look all that well engineered. Many of the kit manifolds leave a lot to be desired and I haven't seen one that gets into the whole A/R business and It's literally been decades since I did that myself. On the other hand, the sound of a tuned,...

The serial no. calls it a 635CSi -- so it must have been "upgraded" sometime in the past. My decision now is to either make it a more honest version of what it is or to make it perform as it pretends to be. I'm not a great believer in moving backwards so .... decisions, decisions... so man...

I was lucky, but not THAT lucky. The car has M badges front and rear, M steering wheel, Five spoke BMW wheels (very rounded spokes, M?) and a truly crappy aftermarket radio and wooden shifter knob. I understand the M 635 has the twin cam engine but mine is a M30. I'm in Ontario ( Canada, not Califor...

I'm also a new 635 owner ('85 635CSi with "M package" (?) white/black) though not at all new to wasting money joyfully on cars and bikes. The reference material from Chris Wright just saved me tons of work. Bless you and anyone who looks like you!
