Re: Strange headlamp behaviour
Here are the seven digit BMW part numbers for the front light connectors: High Beam: 1378401 Main Beam: 1378403 (yellow) Side and Fog: 1378402 I replaced mine a few years ago as the connectors tend to crack at the cover hinge. My car is a Highline (1988), so these part numbers may not be correct for...

Re: wtb B35 Oil Filter Housing
There are two B35 filter housings. The downward facing ones fitted to B35 engined E24s and the upwards facing ones fitted to M30 engined E34s. The B34 downward housing is different again. My point is that the upward facing oil filter housing from the E34s cannot be fitted to the E24s without some &q...

Re: wtb B35 Oil Filter Housing
It's worth noting, for anyone else who is thinking about this, that it is not possible to fit the upright oil filter canister to the E24 (E28 based ones) as there is not enough room in the engine bay. The top of the canister pushes up againt the plastic ABS relay cover. I guess it's not impossible i...

Re: one or two piece drive shaft
I ordered one from BMW about a year ago. The part number is 26111226625 and it's two pieces. My car is a 1988 635CSiA, so automatic as yours is. The manual cars have a completely different propshaft with a rubber guibo, something that is not required for an automatic. Can't see how it can be a one p...

Re: Motor mount replacement interval?
I replaced mine after 30 odd years. Didn't make any difference to anything and it was a pig of a job which took hours. The trouble is that the rubber mounts get stuck in the engine mounting arms. I had to remove one of the mounting arms from the side of the engine to pull it out. This with the engin...

Re: Fibreglass and carbon fibre panels in UK.
Has anyone had any luck with this company? I've been trying to contact them for a couple of weeks now and there is nothing but an answer phone. No respone from my email either. Shame, as I really fancy those inner splash guards, even though they are more expensive than getting them from BMW.

Re: Windscreen replacement
I replaced my windscreen a few years ago. It's not an easy job and it's worth getting some decent windscreen tools. Sealey do a set with high tensile string and applicator. I used Arbomast Autograde (which remains flexible and does not dry) to seal the screen after it had been installed. It was inje...

Re: Shark Squad at Bimmer meet by BMW Car Mag / Bangkok, Thailand
Some great pictures of some great looking cars!
I'll be visiting Thailand in July, but sadly I won't be bringing my 635 with me, although it would fit in nicely with the other right hand drive cars there!

Re: Vibration from new propshaft
Reading this thread with interest, hoping it might help answer why my car has a varying slight to moderate vibration between 65-80 kph. Its been occurring since having the guibo replaced a few years ago, which was causing the typical thumping. The indy repairer assured me it was ok, although I was ...

Re: People that lean against your car......
How about this one: I was driving through Spain a few years ago in my 635 and at one petrol station I noticed a car pull beside mine, open the door into my car, and then proceed to use the roof as a picnic table #-o Good job that I'm not too fussed about things like that, but I would never dream of ...

Re: Vibration at 60 and 120 Km/h (38 and 75mph)
So your problems are all fixed now? It was the propshaft damper? Mine is an auto so it has no propshaft damper, but thanks for the suggestion. Nick The shot damper was the cause of the vibrations at 120 and 60Km/h, but I still got this pretty obvious vibration at low speed between 1500 and 2400 rmp...

Re: Vibration from new propshaft
So I got a new propshaft from BMW and re-installed exactly as before, took out for test drive and still had vibration at 25-30, but no vibration at 55-60MPH. I took some measurements of working angles discovered that the transmission output shaft points 2.4 degrees downwards and the differential poi...

I replaced my brake light switch, as I have to do every 5 years or so :-({|= After replacing it, I noticed that the "D" indicator bulb had blown in the dashboard. So then I dropped the kick panel again, dropped the steering column and partially pulled the dash pod. Using my tiny litt...

Thanks Brucey. There I was thinking this would be easy. BMW have promised to give me a new propshaft, so we'll see how that goes. Re: Vibration from new propshaft
Thanks both. Sounds like the 2 halves of the driveshaft might not be balanced with each other. Did you ever separate the two halves? And if so did you mark them and assembly the exact same way? Being off by even one spline may affect the dynamics as the driveshaft spins quite fast. I assume you are ...

Vibration from new propshaft
So I bought a brand new propshaft from BMW a few months back and installed it. Took a long time researching everything about how to replace them correctly. Reassembled everything and took for test drive. Noticed a small vibration through the front seat at between 25-30MPH, and then a significant vib...

Re: Vibration at 60 and 120 Km/h (38 and 75mph)
It now has a more noticeable vibration at 20 Km/h (more or less), but I think it's more related to rpm. If I start gently when in 1st gear I can barely feel it, but if I make a quicker start the vibration is pretty evident. Could it be that they made some mistake while replacing parts on the propsh...

Re: Master Cylinder Heatshield
I fabricated one many years ago as of course the later RHD models had the master cylinder on the right side of car next to the exhaust manifold. I assume yours has the same MC location? Top half of the shield is just cable tied to the booster servo input pipe: https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2529/3263...

Re: Dealer prices!!!
You're lucky it's not a part for a 17 year old Jeep! The prices for those parts make BMW look cheap and that's if you can even get the part as a lot are NLA. Think £12 for an M12 castellated nut, £5 for an M10 copper washer or brake bleed nipples which must be bought in packs of twenty!

Re: Heater Control Valve
I just replaced my heater control valve assembly (Pt. # 64111373191) with a supposedly new OEM unit and it leaks profusely where the upper and lower parts of the plastic body are joined. You can plug the outlet port with your thumb, blow into the inlet port, and feel air coming out around the seam....

I have just done this on my car. The LHD aim system will fit, but as described above the pipes are routed slightly differently. Normally on LHD and RHD systems, both pipes would be routed down the left side of the engine bay and then one pipe goes across the nose section of the car in front of the r...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Finally managed to finish the fitment of the LHD headlight aim system to my RHD car. Has taken ages as the pipe routing is non-OEM. Have protected the pipes with silicone tape, slit tube and cool tube extreme (from DEI), so I hope they will last longer than 5 years. Well worth installing given that ...
