GripGreg, any chance of a quick sound file or video? Judging the sound can be difficult. I recently bought a Dodge pickup with a Magnaflow into dual tailpipes - nice sound but WAY too loud. In ended up having a shop add in a 6" x 18" Magnaflow and it brought the volume down by half - perfe...

Try a mom & pop reputable shop & have them build one to fit. It'll also be cheaper, I bet. Mine cost me $200 the receipt says. But, I replaced it only from the cat. back with 2 1/2" pipe. Yes but I'm also concerned about getting the sound right. Now I realize that everyone's taste is d...

Ireland Engineering exhaust

I spoke to Jeff at IE about fitting their exhaust to an M6. http://www.iemotorsport.com/bmw/E28-E24-exhaust/e28catback.html He responded; Our system is made for the 535 and 635 models originally sold in the USA. On the parts diagram the mufflers for the M625 look the same but I can not guaranty the ...

on engines where the crankcase breather is fed into the air intake (which is most of them) and the fuel is injected downstream of the butterfly (ditto) it is commonly the case that there will be deposits around the throttle butterfly/butterflies. If these get to be bad enough then they can impede f...

£5 for a pack of five of those bearings on ebay over here. I'm determined to make a manometer - not least after Brucey explaining why they are so useful (it's not just the name, although that was enough for me), so that'll mean sorting the mechanical side of the throttle bodies first. I haven't st...

One of the first thing I read was 'needle bearings for the throttle shaft' and I know that this is going to send me in the right direction.

Thanks Ron, this will keep me busy for a while.

BTW even a slight 'hang' in the throttle will likely cause a large 'run on' because this will nearly always cause the TPS to stay open instead of working the idle contact. If the TPS closes this cuts the fuel at engine speeds above about 1100 rpm so the revs will drop quickly as soon as the TPS clo...

Da_Hose - when it's fully hot (and I shut down the engine) I can pull the linkage at the intermediate shaft and it will not slap home... it will hang and I can push the ball & sockets down to close the throttles. As it cools down the linkage sticks less and less, then eventually slaps back when ...

Yes, I sprayed lube into the ball & socket joints as well as the outer surfaces where the shaft runs through the throttle plate housings. No real difference.

Thanks for the reply, we'll see if anyone has had this issue or has experience servicing/syncing throttle plates...

Sticking throttle when hot.

I have recently purchased a 1987 M6 with 150K mi on the M38. Generally in good shape but I've got a list of work to do over the winter. One issue I need to resolve is a sticking throttle when the engine is hot. All is fine when cold or moderately warm but if I leave it idling for 10 minutes or if si...

M635CSi from Canada

Hello from northern Ontario, Canada. I have recently purchased a 1987 M635 from an old friend who's health has been failing over the past few years. This would be my fourth straight 6 BMW and one I've always aspired to own. Originally a US car, it's been well used (150,000 mi) but still looking very...
