Re: Where have all the parts gone?

bpoliakoff - BluntTech has a nicely done website. I'll search that this evening. Thanks for the suggestion.

North American bumper corner wanted

I am looking for one front left bumper end cap #10 - #51111869769. Mine is rusting on the inside! The plastic is bulging up in spots and the mounting hardware is MIA. The PO attached them with coat hanger wire.... I'm looking for one in relatively good condition and in original black unpainted plast...

Re: A/C abilities

A comment about R134 and it's cooling abilities. I have kept the dealer installed Fridgeking (similar to 70's BMWs) working on my '73 Volvo quite nicely over the years. Recently, after being stored for an extended period of time, I'd found the AC would not cool. This was still running on an R12 char...

Re: LED head lights

I have put a set of LED H4 headlamps on my classic Mini. I didn't want the bug-eyed look of most of the 7" LEDs out there so I decided to mount the Supernova bulbs into my Lucas Carello lamps. This keeps the classic look of the Carellos, brighter output of the 5000K LED lamp, lower current draw...

Re: Where have all the parts gone?

It happens as the cars get older and the demand diminishes. BMW is in the business, not sourcing parts just to keep our old vehicles on the road. Unfortunate, but the way it is. Look at 02's and E3/E9's. Those are hard to find parts for. No, I realize that old cars are tricky. Let me tell you about...

Where have all the parts gone?

I started making a list of parts needed to sort my '87 M6 about 3 years ago. I bought the car that had been in storage 5 years and made notes while I drove it, gingerly at first owing to a de-laminated diff mount, and started a parts list. Finishing some major projects at work sidelined any serious ...

Re: Starting with some new rims....

My drove to the USA this morning, picked up my used BBS 090s and then drove back home - 620 KM, 100 liters of fuel and only one stop. They are not quite as bad as olympia57's but close. Well packed though - double boxed. I will start with a good power wash and see how the paint on the web really is....

brickwhite - Thanks for the links. Google does now tend to deliver differently to different users, usually filling the first page or two exclusively with sales advertisements. Great articles that have made the process much more clear to me now. The M5board installation directions are most intriguing...

Purpose of the 11311308309 diaphragm?

I am working, cleaning up my 1987 S38 engine bay and under a whole lotta grunge, attached to the front of the cylinder head, I've found a caked up round steel device that RealOEM shows as a 11311308309 diaphragm. What is the purpose of this device. Can/should it be serviced? What about the chain ten...

Re: AC hose removal

Good thing I was also planning a tune up so removing the rad became part of this job too. Lay underneath the car for a while wondering 'how do they do it' and observing the layers of caked on grease & grime. Jay Stratton told me the top fitting was a 32mm and fortunately, I have the fan clutch t...

AC hose removal

I am doing the work I should have done this past winter but the extreme cold (-40C) sucked all the motivation out of me. So here it is June and I am pulling parts out to send off to Jay Statton for a rebuild. My issue is with the Behr AC compressor top hose - the inaccessible one. Short of trying a ...

Re: Starting with some new rims....

I have chosen to go with a nut/bolt combination from Black Forest Industries. https://store.blackforestindustries.com/m8asbofor2bb.html I spent some time with our local industrial nut/bolt shop and they felt that any standard combination they could come up with would not be sufficient. I am a bit co...

Re: Starting with some new rims....

I have found a set in California so with exchange and shipping they should be close to the same cost as new set of 'tribute' wheels. Hub centric 10mm spacers and a new set of center caps (#36131181068 - still available) should finish it all off. As Don's impressive posting shows, there will be elbow...

RC90's are two piece, correct? Those will need o-ring seals to be changed or are they just silicone sealed?

Starting with some new rims....

It's time. Time to search for some wheels to update the original TRX rims with the not so old set of TRX tires (20 years). I have chosen to chase down a set of 17" Dare Motorsport RS wheels in silver - http://daremotorsport.com/wheels.html - the closest thing I can find to mimic the look of a B...

Re: S38 timing chain assessment

Thanks Sharkfan. Yes, an American spec car, delivered in Massachusetts (had to spell check that) and now in Canada. The leak-down will tell a lot on the condition of the entire engine - look forward to knowing that. When I pull the cam cover, I'll have a close look at the sprockets for uneven tooth ...

S38 timing chain assessment

It's time for me to do some service work on my '87 M6 S38. I have struggled to find any details in the limited documents I've got from the POs but there does not seem to be any record of a timing chain replacement. It's got 147,000 miles on it and runs well, uses no oil (will do leakdown before serv...

I will be checking the valve clearances on my 1987 US spec M6 and will take this opportunity to change the plugs & wires. Is there a consensus on what make and model of plug to use?

Re: CUSTOM / SPORTS EXHAUST OPTIONS

I tried an Ireland Engineering cat-back exhaust but the construction was so poor that I ended up only using the rear muffler and had the shop put in straight pipe between the Cats and muffler. I am happy with the sound of the rear only. Just enough to be interesting but not annoying and with a bit o...

Re: Brake service 87 M6

If you haven't used a pressure bleeder on the brakes, you're missing out on one of mankind's greatest inventions. Yes, I have thought about this especially with the potential issues caused by draining the ABS if you don't keep the reservoir topped up. Seeing as how the second bleed has worked and n...
