LSD typically require a special additive so regular diff oil is not good enough. It's best to check and find the approved stuff for the LSD. German and Swedish or Euro car parts should have it.

I go the slave cylinder on and tried to bleed the system with the pressure bleeder. The fluid that came out was nasty so I let it drain, with plenty of fluid in the pressure bleeder. After lowering the car, I tried to pump the clutch and it immediately dropped to the floor. I raised the car again an...

M635CSI transmission compatibility

All my transmission is missing 2nd gear and i'm debating rebuilding vs finding a replacement.
Can anyone tell me if a 635csi transmission is the same as an M635csi?

Thanks

Yep, they're ranting about that on the MB forum too. It's a good thing that i have a couple of cans of the stuff on the shelf. It does dye your reservoir. Today I picked up a slave cylinder and valve cover gaskets for the Beemer. At $24, it was not worth the aggro of testing whether the other one wi...

Some use a pressure bleeder that attaches to the reservoir and shoves the fluid through the line down to the slave. I use a vacuum bleeder that attaches to the slave cylinder bleed screw and pulls the fluid (and air) through the line and out. You could enlist a friend to pump the pedal manually. I ...

The clutch is hydraulic, and operates from the same fluid reservoir as the brakes. Check your brake fluid level. The clutch system feeds from higher on the reservoir than the brake system, so the clutch will run dry before the brakes. If your fluid is ok, it'll probably be that the slave cylinder h...

Quick update regarding this car. I've been beating my head against a brick wall trying to get a factory M spec muffler at a decent price. Every dealer that I called refused to sell. I even tried going through an employee and they turned him down too. As a result, I had a pea shooter 635csi installed...

What wheels are these? They kind of look like the wheels that were on a neighbors E21 323i from way back in the day... only much bigger.

Reminds me of my 1997 Mercedes Benz E420. I bought it as the second owner when I was 30 years old. Black on black, with 60k miles and looked like a million dollars. Sold it to a friend at 135k and regretted it like crazy until I bought it back a couple of years later at 171k. Getting it back was lik...

Careful, there are lots of land mines when it comes to 'restoration shops'. Many make it a goal is to keep your car for as long as possible and do as little as possible while they milk you for every penny you have before it's over and done. It happened to me on my 280SL and I got stung for $15k, but...

Re: M635 OEM Exhaust

To clarify, you went with a stock M635CSI muffler or a 635CSI muffler on an M635? I'm trying to do the same thing with my M635csi and am battling dealerships that either refuse to sell it or want astonishing prices for the one or two that are stocked in the US.

Thanks

My next challenge has been the exhaust system which was discussed in another thread. It appears that BMW is refusing to sell Euro parts to US customers and therefore I'm not able to get an OE rear muffler. I'm taking one more run at this before i buy a 635csi system and make it fit. Getting a contac...

That's cost prohibitive. In the end, I'll go with an aftermarket unit if I can't find an OE unit at reasonable price.

Following up. I got an Email from Tomkinson BMW in Indiana this morning indicating that they were not able to get the part that they will cancel my order. I called them to follow up and they said again that because it's a European car, BMW blocks the purchase of parts that are Euro specific. It's a ...

It's interesting that you may go with Jeff's situation. I, of course don't mind, but, what I presented is cheaper & includes the dual pipe from the cat to the back. Good to have choices, huh? Now I realize why I requested an '85. Greg Greg To be clear , I already put an order from a BMW dealer ...

Greg Thanks, I have a worldpac and IMC account and am therefore to get most aftermarket parts locally and at wholesale prices. I usually never have problems ordering Mercedes Benz parts for my Euro cars, even if it's a rare beast like my Euro spec 300SEL 6.3. I'm kind of surprised that these guys do...

Are BMW dealers a bunch of idiots?

Called four dealers looking for a muffler for my car and gave them the PN# 18121309 004 Heard 4 different stories 1) Part NLA 2) I'll need to order from Germany 3) It's available in Germany but I can't order it because it's not legal in the US (What??) 4) I don't have it, but it's available in Washi...

Hi, this is a yellow light and would seem more like a warning light then a the hazard light. The flashers themselves are fine and in my experience that's usually a dash mounted switch that would light along with the flasher but I don't know these cars in particular. My MB's with traction control hav...

My daily driver is a 93 MB 500E. .... I also have a 73 MB 450 SL that I drove out of a corn field a while back.\ It's nice to see a few MB guys on this forum.
