Dammit I totally disconnected the alternator and in the key in the "on" position I get a nasty whine even with the engine not running. It sucks Still having the whine with nothing running and the alternator disconnected, that shoots my theory out of the water. I think you've knackered you...

This is going to sound weird (no pun intended) but check your alternator output. I think you may have fried a diode.

Replacement is better than the 'option' the previous owner of my friend's E30 took. The guy said the coolant tank was ugly, so he painted it BLACK. #-o  How's that for brilliant?

Since Dylan brought it up, how DO you get the coolant and washer reservoirs looking pristine, short of just replacing them outright? I've tried washing them (inside and out) with every cleaner I have and even tried bleach with no real results. They still look horrible.

Pay someone there to buy it, then ship it to you. There are many members from the UK on here. Insurance reasons? Geez, they're not shipping explosives or flammables. OR, you could just buy this: http://www.harborfreight.com/20-inch-chain-wrench-97073.html#.UytFeqg7uSo For $6 what have you got...

No word yet if Ricciardo will be DQed. The F1 officials said his car "consistently exceeded 100 litres of fuel per hour" fuel flow during the race. 100l/hr is the limit.

Vinny, sorry to hear of the hospital's bungling, very glad to see you are still well enough to joke about it! I read your two conversations to my wife, and we are both crying from laughing so hard. Sorry, mate, but couldn't help it!

It appears that Red Bull has some work to do. From dominant last year, to dogs this year? I guess the switch to turbos caught them behind the development curve. And several cars with transmission problems right out of the trailers? That was a surprise!

Watching qualifying now, live on NBCSN. MAN it's weird after being used to hearing those mega-high revving engines for years and now the low-pitched subdued turbo mills.

You can still get the A pillar plugs and door handle gaskets from many places including the dealer.

I'd suggest gluing the plugs in. I bought new, all four, and lost all four in a matter of two weeks. I swear they were installed all the way in.

Spent in excess of $5k with Pelican in the last two years. Good parts, good prices, almost always have the parts in stock, and if they don't, it will tell you in your "cart" before you get to checkout. Sprocket, what kind of inner bumper piece did you end up with for the E36? I have two of...

Much controversy about this very subject. If you search YouTube there are dozens of videos on how to fix peeling clear. The only real way to fix it is start over, but many of the results with simpler fixes result in some pretty good results. Will it ever look new with a shortcut method? Nope.

Ether ignites at much lower spark level than gasoline, so I'd look closely at your ignition system. Plugs, HT wires, distributor cap and rotor.

Maybe I missed it, but on the "smoked" rear lights, what makes them light up red or orange? You have to use colored bulbs. I'm with Paul on this one, in that I don't really like clears on the E24. A lot has to do with the paint color, though. Clears don't look good at all (to me, at least...

Can you narrow down the location a little bit? Front, rear, intake or exhaust side?

My first thought is a vacuum leak, but you don't mention a problem with the idling characteristics. :-k
