Adapting a parallel flow condensor...

I came across these folks at http://nostalgicac.com/condensers.html They sell parallel condensors, some with the drier attached to them. Seems there's lots of room in the nose of our e24's to fit something like this. I see a lot of discussion of moving to r134a with the need for a parallel flow cond...

What's going to happen to that little brown barn in the background? Are it's contents going to be swallowed up in the new structure?

Re: My 1987 M6 "Refresh"

Nice, your foam looks very different from mine. It's a much darker shade. I didn't have a choice of side. It was a self adhesive situation. I thought I had the OEM part, but who knows. How'd your "Goof-Off" go for removal of the old cement? I had to resort to lacquer thinner. I did it over...

Rear suspension parts renewed

So today, I finally had some time to put in some new dogbones (rear stabilizer link) and also the sway bar links. So there's a few tricks here to note... I've listed them in the notes below. First of all, I though my dogbones were OK, then one day under the car I saw the rubber was cracking. Well, c...

Going to be nice to have all that space for tinkering! I just have to do mine in the driveway or move the cars out of the garage to tinker in the shade.

Hood foam makes a difference.

So after I completed the hood foam, I also changed the oil in my car. I went from a 5W30 to a 10W40. I am told that these older BMWs need a bit thicker oil from an BMW racer friend of mine. So after driving the car to work this past week, I must say that the engine sounds seemed to be a bit more mut...

Finally - Hood Foam!

After sitting in my trunk for 3 weeks, I finally had time to put on the new replacement OEM foam. I did spend a few hours trying to get all the nasty old cement that was hardened and fused to the hood. I drove about a week and a half with out hood foam and started to wonder if it was really even nec...

Re: Bringing a Belgian 635 CSi 1984 back on the road

I recently replaced my shocks with Bilstein sports. It doesn't do anything to the tire position. I also saw slight evidence of rubbing after I put larger wheels and tires on my car. Also the wider tires still looked whimpy in the wheel wells. I ended up putting some pretty hefty spacers on the front...

Re: Stupid front end alignment question...

OK, I think I understand. FWIW moving the track rods a small equal amount more or less preserves the toe setting provided the adjustment is near the middle anyway. The accuracy with which the track rods ought to be set is (from memory) about 1/10th of a turn (to keep the toe setting correct) and id...

Re: Stupid front end alignment question...

Song, have you checked your steering box mount on the crossmember? Yes I have, but quite a few months back. I replaced the main link and it fixed some really sloppy steering issues that the car had when I initially purchased it. At the same time I was careful to check the steering box mount...

Re: Stupid front end alignment question...

The tie rods (or 'track rods' as we call them in the UK) are threaded left and right at each end (which is how come the rod ends have different part numbers at each end, even though the tapers etc are identical). Turning the centre adjusts the length. Adjusting the tie rods like that affects the to...

Stupid front end alignment question...

My car seems to have a slight drift to the right when driving straight on the freeway. I thought I would do a quick adjustment of the steering tie rods and fix it up. Seems easy enough. Question: Do you have to take off the tie rod ends to adjust the length of the assembly? I loosened the 13mm bolt ...

Re: Hood Vent grille filters?

No filters, but there are little plastic screens that go there. They do help keep stuff out. There is also a rain deflector that goes on the driver's side. A member just supplied me with one. I have been remiss in repaying him with some higher output LED bulbs for his tail lights in exchange. I rea...

Hood Vent grille filters?

Ok, I have a birch tree at my house. It drops all kinds of little seedlets and many of them go right into the fresh air vent on my e24. When I turn on the fan, I get a flurry of little birch seedlets spewed into the interior. It's a bit annoying. When removing my hood foam the other day I noticed so...

Original sales brochure for my car!

Original 1981 633CSi sales brochure

So I got all excited and impulse purchased a mint condition 1981 BMW 633csi sales brochure off of eBay. This is no ordinary brochure as it's about 30-40 pages of full color 8.25" x 11.5" pages with foldouts at practically every other page. The issue is that my car is a 1984 model. ](*,) So...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Be prepared to curse a little on the rear sway bar links. I removed mine completely and it still took some sweat equity to press them on. Lots of lube will be needed. Cursing at this car is something I am all too familiar with. The good news is that the cursing is happening with less frequency now....

OEM Hood Foam

So my order from Bav Auto arrived today and with it was the replacement hood foam pieces. Upon inspection, it looks like it's OEM material as it's labeled BMW and has a BMW part number. I was also surprised to find that it's self adhesive. It's like a giant sticker. What I had read before on the for...

So in the little town where I live is one of the most staggering car facilities in the country. Every 2nd Saturday from 8-12pm, Canepa Design hosts a gathering at this restoration shop. Now, "shop" doesn't do this place justice. It is a massive restoration facility and museum. Here are a f...

Nasty Hood foam!

So I ordered replacement hood insulation foam from BavAuto as well as a slew as suspension pieces (dogbones, all sway bar links, tie rods) for work this weekend.
