I hear ya, Colin. I am a total tool whore trained as a machinist, diesel mechanic and with good welding and metal working skills. I have a mini-mill and a mini-lathe along with all the other traditional stuff. I would DIE without the workshop space of a two-car garage. I wouldn't cover, I would buy ...

Yeah Alpine, you need to know what you want when you head to those cheap tool supply places. They have VERY limited knowledge of how to use the tools in the place and recommendations are often less that fully informed. The cheapest tool available for bending thin wall exhaust tubing is some kind of ...

I figured vinyl would match better, but leather is better at sticking. Although you have to maintain it more.

It should be before the cat. You can get weld-in bungs in the right thread pattern, then just plug off the existing bung.

Batteries are kind of "rule of thumb" type items. Buy a gel cell that is at least as big as what you have. Amperage doesn't matter, unless you have too little. I say that you should buy the highest amp battery that fits in the space you have available. Unless it's a project, then buy the s...

Use a rubber mallet and tap the tube lightly, or try jacking up the rear arm a little to see if there is too much tension causing things to bind. The bottom of the shock has a dowel that slides into the rear arm and holds it in place. Once you pull the bolt, it should just push out.

Try pulling the thermostat altogether and see if water starts flowing. I'd almost say to pull the thermostat altogether and flush under pressure. You could get a clamp to seal off the upper rad hose, and connect a flush system to the water pump input. That way you can use water pressure from the hos...

If the top hose is squashed, there is a vacuum in the cooling system. It sounds as if the pump is moving liquid, but it isn't get out of the engine and a vacuum is getting created in the upper hose. Might need to pull the thermostat housing and see if anything is blocked. Water flow is pump, to jack...

If your O2 sensor is dead, that's the problem. Replace it and drive for a week. Should take care of things.

I don't see a problem, unless you end up driving like ... well, like it's a BMW. If you manage to unload the shocks you could unseat the spring and bad things would ensue. There are people who run their 02's with the long struts and short springs for a long time with no problems. Autocrossers know b...

A simple test for the ECU would be to connect alligator clips to the injector plug, unplug the fuel pump and crank the engine. Unless the low fuel pressure causes the system to hold it's pulse you should get voltage readings on your meter. By the way, I'm quite sure now that you need the 0 280 150 7...

Hmmmm .... so if we are splicing wire, it sounds like we should be soldering just short of the connector so the splice is corrosion resistant and relatively safe from the elements. THEN heat shrink the solder joint.

Tranny won't make a difference in the injectors. It sure does sound like you have the wrong injectors in there, unless you changed engines. I haven't had that happen before, but I can see low impedance injectors jamming open too long and causing a rich condition.

When you remove the knobs, one of the little metal levers will actually come off. Then you can remove the seat back by pulling it ou...

Can you give me the part number on your injectors?

By what I see the orange injector should be part 0 280 150 126 and it should read 2-3 ohms. Although, I also see that those look like injectors from a 528 or a 523.

Exhaust system and exhaust note thread

Seeing recent questions about exhausts, I thought maybe a thread with technical and audio references would be nice. Car is a 1987 M6 with chip and K&N. As bought had an exhaust system made up of headers, into a 2-1 cat, 2 3/4? inch pipe connects to a glasspack (reduces noise level) and continues...

I have wondered if in cases like this it is worth it to drill a small hole in the side or top and spray in some tuner cleaner. Then let the extra drain out and seal the hole with silicone. I imagine that if the relay goes bad it could be lubridant drying up or maybe pitted contacts. If it's contact ...
