I hear ya, Colin. I am a total tool whore trained as a machinist, diesel mechanic and with good welding and metal working skills. I have a mini-mill and a mini-lathe along with all the other traditional stuff. I would DIE without the workshop space of a two-car garage. I wouldn't cover, I would buy ...

Yeah Alpine, you need to know what you want when you head to those cheap tool supply places. They have VERY limited knowledge of how to use the tools in the place and recommendations are often less that fully informed. The cheapest tool available for bending thin wall exhaust tubing is some kind of ...

Try pulling the thermostat altogether and see if water starts flowing. I'd almost say to pull the thermostat altogether and flush under pressure. You could get a clamp to seal off the upper rad hose, and connect a flush system to the water pump input. That way you can use water pressure from the hos...

If the top hose is squashed, there is a vacuum in the cooling system. It sounds as if the pump is moving liquid, but it isn't get out of the engine and a vacuum is getting created in the upper hose. Might need to pull the thermostat housing and see if anything is blocked. Water flow is pump, to jack...

Ooh, ooh I have some. 1.) Eliminate SLS in rear and put in coilovers or Bilstein HD's with spring of choice 2.) Upgrade swaybars to ST's with 22 front, 18 rear. 3.) Chip the engine (as mentioned previously) 4.) Change to polyurethane bushings everywhere 5.) Install Ireland weld-in camber kit on rear...

I don't see a problem, unless you end up driving like ... well, like it's a BMW. If you manage to unload the shocks you could unseat the spring and bad things would ensue. There are people who run their 02's with the long struts and short springs for a long time with no problems. Autocrossers know b...

Is that split the full length of the radiator? I ask because there are fantastic products available for brazing aluminum. You can find rod that bonds well at 850 degrees, which is just below the liquidus temperature of aluminum. Best of all, you can reach those temperatures on thin aluminum using a ...

A simple test for the ECU would be to connect alligator clips to the injector plug, unplug the fuel pump and crank the engine. Unless the low fuel pressure causes the system to hold it's pulse you should get voltage readings on your meter. By the way, I'm quite sure now that you need the 0 280 150 7...

When you remove the knobs, one of the little metal levers will actually come off. You have to look inside the slot and you will see that there is a phillips screw on the bottom that is holding the lever on. Remove that screw and the lever comes off. Then you can remove the seat back by pulling it ou...

Exhaust system and exhaust note thread
Seeing recent questions about exhausts, I thought maybe a thread with technical and audio references would be nice. Car is a 1987 M6 with chip and K&N. As bought had an exhaust system made up of headers, into a 2-1 cat, 2 3/4? inch pipe connects to a glasspack (reduces noise level) and continues...

I have wondered if in cases like this it is worth it to drill a small hole in the side or top and spray in some tuner cleaner. Then let the extra drain out and seal the hole with silicone. I imagine that if the relay goes bad it could be lubridant drying up or maybe pitted contacts. If it's contact ...
