Re: This Sucks

This does royally suck. I am still reporting to my office, as my space is more isolated, and I need to interact with systems physically to keep our college daily business running. Always being careful, and washing up when I leave/return to my area. At least I still have a job. I hope anyone not work...

Re: Bmw sound system speakers upgrade help

You can greatly improve sound from the rear if you fab up a new base plate from some pressboard, and install a pair of 6X9's instead. Practically any brand will give you WAY more bottom end. I am partial to Pioneer for 6X9's. To make things much nicer, also replace your door tweeters with some good ...

Re: rear upper cam housing cover plate gasket

To get that cover off I use regular old combination wrenches, and patience. Although you can try a ratcheting box end wrench on it. I think maybe those ratchet wrenches that allow a bolt to pass clean through could work as well.

Re: rear upper cam housing cover plate gasket

Yes, the cam tray rear cover gasket can be replaced without major teardown. You will need to remove the valve cover, and have some small combination, or box end wrenches to work with. There is practically no space to work back there, but with the right assortment of very small tools, you can get tha...

Re: Electric winch?

Unless the lift is a fixed 2, or 4 post model, you can't rely on it as an anchor. My car was sitting on smooth ground, and the scissor lift started moving when I tested pulling directly against it. Maybe if you tack an anchor block of some kind in front of the lift, you could rely on the weight to j...

Re: Electric winch?

In my case, there is a large, rectangular drain in my back patio. If I pull the drain grate, there is a large rectangular hole in the patio that points N/S from me when I stand in the back garage door. I have a piece of square tubing that fits into the drain, and the winch attaches to the tubing. Th...

Re: Help with hot running m88

Definitely check for coolant flow, but if spooling it up cools it down, I suspect your fan mechanical fan clutch, or electric fan. I think it more likely that its your electric fan that is the issue, and sounds like you already addressed the mechanical fan clutch. The electric fan is meant to make a...

Re: Electric winch?

Ok young man..... You describe exactly what I did, and exactly why I did it. My M6 is too low to roll over my mid-rise lift, so I created risers from all the wood the lift was shipped in. However, the M6 is non-running right now, and I cannot just push it up the short ramps onto those risers. My sol...

Re: M6 Radiator shop drawing

Is the point of all this to have a super cool radiator, that also doesn't leak. Or is concern about future leaks after replacing the big issue? I ask because when mine went bad, I decided the Wizard was too expensive, as it doesn't necessarily cool WAY better, nor do I have a track car. I drive &quo...

Keep in mind that knob could REALLY be a bugger to take off. At first I thought it would require pliers and a new knob IF I could get it off, but eventually it let go after I used my small strap wrench.

Ok then, If the whole thing is shot, you are looking for part number 32311150491. ECS tuning shows that they can get you the part by the 18th. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/cross-joint/32311150491/ If ECS can't get it, then look for suppliers to the race car community. Although coupl...

Re: Steering u-joint

I don't remember exactly what the part looks like, but flex disks are disposable. On more than one car I have fixed the steering linkage where the joint itself was OK. I ground off the rivets holding things together, and replaced the disk with a generic piece from a local parts store kit.

Hey there, As Bobbo points out, you are most certainly looking at custom fabrication, it's a matter of how extensive. If you are leaving the headers in place, and taking everything off from the flanges back, and you are doing the work yourself, then I hope you have a lift, or space enough to get the...

I'm with Bert. We are a community of enthusiasts, and what I like most is that we focus on helping first. I have tried a thin walled socket that was supposed to be correct for S38, and it binds in the hole. I have one that I'll need to turn down, once I get my friggin lathe cleaned up. I highly reco...

That pretty much describes the paper manual I scanned, Bert. I also used the online manual to print out missing pages, and added the whole rear axle section to my online version.

I sure would like to find that original CD, so we could post the complete, clear .pdf files.

Great! Glad it helps.

Maybe you could scan your M88 specific info. and send it to me, or post it for download? I could add it to my manual, and then the community will have the most comprehensive version possible.

Hey folks, Ralph's comment about indexing that hole and tab made me go through the manual. The final drive section mentions nothing about that drain hole, but I found a couple of pictures that sort of let you see the writing on the flanges. I suggest looking at the manual and seeing if you can figur...

A separate, unique manual for the M6 wasn't published. What is available, is a combined manual for the 635, with a section about the S38, and the 5-speed. Take a look at the links below. I scanned my paper manual, and uploaded to share with the community. Manual - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9...

You will need to remove the seats and center console, but the whole evaporator assembly is accessible when those parts are out.
