Looking at instruction 32 32 001, under Steering, in the CD, I see what you mean, there is a picture of the procedure ron detailed above, but no mention of it in the text. You loosen Set Screw #3 to pull Ignition Switch #2 from the end of the Lock Cylinder #4 http://static.bmwfans.info/images/epc/M...

Ignition lock

If your car is pre 9/85 with a coarse spline steering column you will have to remove and replace the shear bolts. If post 9/85 with a fine spline column you can replace just the barrel. There is a small hole underneath the barrel.Put key in lock and insert small drill bit/screwdriver into hole to re...

thanks, you're right: a more detailed check of realoem tells me that all tanks on E12, E28 and E24 are the same part no. on the source of the leak, I'm pretty sure it is corrosion at the bottom of the seam on the bit of the tank nearest the rear wheel. Visibility is not great around here and the th...

Gas struts

The lower mount on the L/H side is on top of the wing (shorter strut) due

to position of air filter on the "M".

The lower mount on the R/H side is on the inner wing (longer strut).

On later cars both lower mounts are on top of the wings so they use the

shorter struts.

Re: Air con recharge

I've just been told by KwikFit that no one in the world can re-charge my air con, as the gases used are now illegal, and I'll have to have my compressor and all lines changed to accomodate new gases; surely not?! Most aircon. specialists can upgrade your system to R134A. They remove existing chargi...

Highline ellipsoids did not always have the electric level adjustment. Mine came without. The only extras it came with were headlamp wiper motors. They are not "electric" Ivan. Simply two fluid filled tubes that work on a push/pull system (which you cannot repair).I did a post a long time...

Sloppy steering

Hi Drew,Not sure if the steering box mounting is the same on E12/E28 based cars but the mounting bracket is a known weak point. When I stripped out the suspension/steering on my Highline I found 3 cracks around the mounting.I made up some gussets and re-inforced the weak bracket. It is extremely diff...

Just taken the old wings off my Highline & found I can't get the old covers off. I've taken the single nut off but the adhesive used to fit them is epic! The online parts guide doesn't list them although I do have the part numbers on the old ones. Are they still available & do they just sti...

Copper brake lines? In the US copper is illegal, is it legal in the UK?
Legal in the UK and they doesn't rust!

Probably better to use cupro-nickel lines.

Re: "Total BMW"

The new issue is just after being released. There is an article in there on a time-warp RHD M635CSi, no. 497. The magazine bills the car as being the last RHD M635CSi. I rather suspect "Bayerische" might disagree with that  Total BMW July 2008. Quote " the second-to- last M635C...
