Steering wheel spline

Is the size of the spline on the steering column on the E12 based 6er a large or small spline? I see reference to this, and was wondering what my 1980 euro has. :-k Thanks.

I forgot to post the result of this thread. I never got to use the lift, I took the parts to a shop and had them installed and alignment done. He charged me 3 hours of labor. Well worth it, as opposed to laying on my back under the car. She is now nice and tight and handles great. On to the next thi...

I found the power problem, a bad wire. I replaced the bad length of wire, and now it works, starts and runs, everything works now except the power windows. Which relay is for the windows on these early cars?

Chris, A lot of stuff works some stuff does not. So I'm thinking it must be in the part close to the plug for the switch. It is really difficult to find these "splices and branches". I will report back after more checking. Thanks.

No power to ignition switch

1980 635Csi euro. The ignition switch fell apart and must have shorted something or burnt the power wire. I installed a new switch and now there is no power to the switch. If I jumper the red power wire to a known good power source, everything works, car starts and runs fine. I can't seem to trace t...

Finally got to work on the car. Found the problem, but have more questions. I am going to start a new thread in the engine-mechanical-electrical forum. I should have been in the proper forum anyway.

Yes, the switch is turning. I will have to get one of my friends over to help, I do not know anything about electronics. Do the early model cars have a security key ignition?

Well, heck, put new switch in and nothing. When the old switch fell apart it shorted, sparked ect. When I turn the key no power gets to the dash, blinkers, wipers don't work, no lights come on in the instrument cluster. The head light switch only turns on the marker lights. The warn flashers, cigar ...

It has a plug, one half inch wide by one and one quarter inch long, and 3/4 inch deep. Other than that it match's, even the 1355 616.2 on the tag. The black wire has its own connector, and the other 4 are in the male end of the plug.

Chris, I finally got that $%#@& out! It is a pain in the arse! When I got the lower column cover off, I could see that the switch had fallen apart and the contacts and springs fell on the floor mat. I noticed the photos in your link don't have a plug housing, just the wires. Do you have to re-us...

Yes, Chris, 61321355701 matches. I was looking at two different P.N. the other is 61321366107, I can't tell the difference between them. The second one I listed is $57.46 at BMW of South Atlanta. I wonder if there is any difference that matters at all.
