Re: Consensus on Rust Proofing?
I've been using Rustbuster Epoxy Mastic 121 recently, which is a two part paint that is incredibly durable. Also try looking at POR15 and "Miracle Paint". For cavities use something like Noxudol 700 and Noxudol 1600UM as an underbody coat. If I was fitting new wings I'd be tempted to have ...

I assume that the angled bracket welded to the cooler body, screws into another angled bracket which is mounted to the body with two bolts. My own oil cooler setup ...

Re: power steering filter
I am in the process of swapping out/rebuilding the power steering pump in my '88 M6. I ordered a new filter for the 3 rib covered filter. When I remove the filter I see no filter present in the can , other than the screen. Could it be none belongs there, or is mine missing? You should have the foll...

Re: Starter motor options
Bringing back an old thread, but I have a new SR444X starter for an M70 engine on its way to me now. I'll report back with my findings and results Be interesting to hear what you find. I've just replaced my started with an SR441X (proper Bosch number is 0 986 014 890) and it's much easier to fit. I...

I have a brand new chrome mirror housing without the glass mirror, but this may not be what you want. I'm also based in the UK, but the mirror housing is for the right hand side of a left hand drive car.

Re: Fitting brakes E31 Brembo fronts + E34 540i/M5 Rears
I have a set of front brembo calipers for a e31 840ci/850ci with new oem discs and a set of rear e34 540i calipers with new oem discs. I'm unsure what more will be required to fit them onto my e24. I've been told that the discs might need to be skimmed and need the carriers from the e31 and e34 but...

Re: M30B35 from a highline
Unfortunately that engine has the wrong mounts for the chassis, and I'd rather have a drop in. It's not massively urgent, apparently it needs to be either early E32 or E24 highline. A minor point, I'm sure you're aware of, that if you do go for a B35 from an E32/E34, you'll need to change the oil f...

Re: SI Board Lithium batteries
Thanks Nick, Just put it all back together on the weekend. Replaced the twin 3v lithium batteries in what seems is a late model (1989) board or whole cluster in my 1986 car. Now I have the complete row of green lights, but 'Inspection' is still lit, despite doing the pin 7 to ground reset. Not sure...

Re: SI Board Lithium batteries
You may already have replaced the batteries and put the board back in the car, but I'd be very surprised if changing the batteries alone would cure the issues you are having. I would go for a re-conditioned board which has had the most fragile components replaced. I spoke to a company who specialise...

Re: Headlight levelling system - hydraulic, pneumatic?
Sorry if this subject has been covered may times before. My primary question is how are they meant to function, not whether they work or (most likely) don't. And on a secondary point is, what is/are the most likely reasons for then failing? It's a hydraulic system designed to function by pushing or...

I have got the Peake tool, but it only works on the very last E24s with the large round diagnostic connector. It will pick up the limited list of fault codes that Motronic 1.3 will output. Here is the list for interest: DME control unit selftest Electrical fuel pump relay Idle speed actuator (open) ...

Water Pump Pulley (Large) 11511271423
I have a genuine BMW large water pump pulley for the M30 and S38 engine. It was used for about 1000 miles (so still in very good condition) after which I removed it to replace with the small pulley which is NLA. Please note that this will reduce the speed of the water pump and will require a longer ...

The smaller piece bolts up under the condenser using 2 self tapping screws (6.4mm) and tinnerman body nuts. The long tang on the larger piece then joins up to the short tang on the smaller piece using a tinnerman style body nut. I imagine that the smaller piece is used where the car does NOT have an...

No it doesn't, but then I didn't expect it to as that sort of work is highly specialised and not something that I would attempt...well actually I might do, but I'd rather let someone else do it.

Nick, The radiator looks really nice. I spoke to the fabricator and he said it is slightly larger 3/8' on the passenger side and the mounting points retain their original location. As for the NPT fitting for the oil cooler, did you have to use a tap and die kit to change it to metric? What did you ...

Re: Anyone have an all aluminum radiator?
I bought one from Wizard two years ago: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8050/29301339631_6422c068cd_c.jpg It's a nice piece of kit, but with the auto transmission radiator included it only just fits with literally 2 or 3 mm either side. It does require modification of the fanshroud (as you can see in...
