Shifter Rod Joint Replacement

I am in the process of ordering parts to rebuild the shifter on my 6/85 635CSi. I am thinking that I should probably replace the rod joint on the shifter linkage as well. I understand that the metal console plate can be removed without dropping the driveshaft but what about the rod joint? Is it reac...

Re: Shifter Rebuild

Ralph, Thanks for the quick response. Will removing the shifter plate give access to the rod joint at the front of the linkage? I will give it a try once the car is finally parked for winter.

Shifter Rebuild

The shifter on my 6/85 635CSi is becoming a difficult to shift and as a winter project I am thinking of replacing as many of the bushings and worn parts that I can. My car has the steel shifter plate. I have read on the mye28.com board that the shifter can be removed from the car without removing th...

Re: Unwanted visitor

I have used Bounce sheets and peppermint oil which has seemed to keep mice away from the interior and engine bay. Mice did get in to the air intake and chewed at the air filter a couple of years ago.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Don, I spent much of my life driving on one lane dirt roads as a game warden here in northern Ontario but that trip up Healey Pass was an unforgettable experience as was adjusting to the right hand drive. On my first trip from a car rental agency in Kilkenny to our b&b I ran over the curbs a few...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Thanks for the lovely pictures as they brought back memories of my wife and I scaling Healey Pass several years ago in a rental car while staying in a rental cottage in Kenmare. I guess that the little souvenir and snack shop at the summit is still operating? One of my favourite holidays ever was th...

Why not try to get it on Bring a Trailer? The prices this model fetches is usually very good.

Re: Found the perfect CB radio for an E24

I still have a Realistic CB in my 1987 Motorhome. I never hear anyone on talking on it in years and the truckers up here no longer use them. The police used to monitor Channel 9 but I doubt they do any longer. The radio has a weather band also so it is still useful. I have an older vintage one somew...

Smart decision to trailer it when you did. That trip through Western Colorado to Green River Utah is pretty desolate. Glad to hear you made it home safe.

You will find western Iowa and Nebraska more interesting. If you get a chance to stop visit Archway on I-80 at Kearney Neb. (if it's open ) and if you have time cross the North Platte River and take a drive west along historic US 30 (The Lincoln Highway) which predates Route 66. It's a time capsule...

Re: Topsider Fluid Extractor

I would suggest looking into a lift. Lots of options out there for all kinds of garages and the prices are reasonable. I have had a two post lift for about 20 years. I dont know how I used to change clutches and stuff laying on my back. A lift would be really nice and I have considered it but I als...

Re: Topsider Fluid Extractor

Have one (think its made by 'laser') that I use on the van and daily driver, definitely a useful tool to have. Not tried it on the M635 but for all modern cars it seems to work well - believe this is what the main dealers use these days too. Works best with cars that have a top fitting cartridge oi...

Re: Thinking of Boston to Montreal round trip this summer in my 89, good idebout

I wouldn't hesitate to take my 1985 635CSi @ 180000 miles on the odometer on a short run like that. Make sure your belts and hoses are in God shape and if possible bring a spare main and fuel pump relay. I took mine on a 2000 miles round trip with no issues and several trips of between 500 and 1000 ...

Re: 1986 Power Sport Seat questions

I used an electric drill with a proper sized Allen wrench on the end of the motor shaft to move the seat back and forth to access the boots. The ratio of the motor is such that using a ratchet is slow.
