Update on Nikki's Adventure

Nikki arrived here (Silverhill, AL) safely about 9:30 tonight after starting out from Spring, TX (just N of Houston) this morning at 6:30. Our plans for a tour/caravan and later dinner on Tuesday have been scrapped due to the horrible weather that's advancing on the Gulf Coast as I type. The forecas...

You get the thermostat to match the housing you have. If your housing is marked 4.1, you have the old housing, which takes the early 'stat, Stant #13558, and the seal goes in the housing before you put in the 'stat. If it's marked A and 4.2 it's a new style housing, and it takes a Stant #13588. The ...

Mine wasn't. What you see in the thread that Alpina linked is ALL there was. Some one had to have taken the rest of the pieces out at some point.

Crazy, Jose is in California. He HAS to run a catalytic converter, and not only that, it has to be CARB approved. :(

Yes, that's another change they made between old and new style housings and thermostats. The old 'stat gets the seal in first, the new one has it applied after the 'stat is in. You aren't an idiot, and you are far from the only person that's struggled with that problem. By the way....makes you wonde...

That penalty was total crap. How do you issue a "avoidable contact" penalty when there was no contact? The Ferrari team got screwed. The Audi driver stuck his nose in KNOWING he would run out of racing room.

And they all end up looking like the one he has on there now after a couple of months.

I just don't understand the fascination with wanting cheap-looking (IMHO) gold-ish emblems. I guess if that's what you want, go for it.

Looking over the E36 in daylight it was the rear wheel arch that did the damage. It was pushed in and almost touching the tire. There is one crease about 1/4"deep in the door. I pulled/rolled the arch off the tire. The dent in the 6er is worse than it appeared, too. Edited pictures to a more ma...

I just cleaned them up and used them as-is. They'll get refinished later. I had a set of E39 M5 Style 65s on there that I needed to get off (one was bent), and rather than have 3 and 1 wheels, I just changed the lot.......... .......and the next morning my daughter backed into the car while leaving ...

Since Nikki hasn't updated here in long while, here's what's going on: She made it out of California and the one hiccup with the 6er stalling was just that, a single hiccup. It's been ticking off the miles effortlessly ever since. She spent some time in Las Vegas. very impressed by the Las Vegas Cha...

I am really surprised at the lack of damage to the E36. It was dark when she got home, but it appears it was a side-against-side hit, not a corner hit. Bebe is scuffed from rear wheel arch to just behind the signal repeater on the front fender. If she's dented, it's very little, just a lot of paint ...

I'm dreading seeing the E36. It WAS a nice car. Judging by the damage it did to the 6er, the E36 has to be in shambles. Looks like she hit the 6er with her left rear corner, but how the heck did she knock the fender molding off both the front and rear fenders on the 318 without knocking off the door...

I cannot win

:( I get a call from my daughter this morning after she gets to work: Her: "I had a little accident with your car this morning" Me: "Like how little?" Her: "It has a little scrape on it, and it knocked the corner off my bumper"(?????) (emphasis mine) "I gotta go......

How to use the cruise control? Run the car up to the speed you want and push forward on the lever. That engages the cruise. You can bump it forward to increase the set speed a little at a time. Likewise pull it back to decrease a little at a time. To disengage, push up or pull down on the lever. Thi...

Koenigs on my 633

As promised, the Elysee wheels finally on my '84 633. Lots of road dust ( after 53 years our road is being paved! ) but I think they look good.

Bump: Edited picture to a more reasonable size.

I don't know if that is possible with home shop equipment. I'm sure the speedometer/odometer specialists have something that will trigger the cluster to test them after repair, but I know of no way to do it at home.

New batteries: no change
New gears: no change
Temporarily swapped in know IC: works

Conclusion: It's your IC. :(

You can try reflowing the solder joints on the IC board, send it out for repair, or buy a known working board. Not many other choices.
