Re: Door seal
Hi Pete, I'm dreading doing this, I've had new seals for 8 months and I just won't pull the trigger. Upon warming weather I'll attempt it. It would be great if you could post a few photos of the problem areas you refer to. Thanks, Roger Yeah, I can do that, give me untill this weekend to take some ...

Door seal
Well, got a new door seal for the divers side, read all the horror stories, decided to dive in over the weekend.. I have now a bad taste in my mouth for German (over) engineering  Lessons learned: old seal came out easy, I did remove the track that it slides in from the car to clean and pol...

Re: Fan speed control
Well, tore all three transistors out of the car, the a/c one is a fun one, only followed shortly by the speed control one :D Ended up taking apart both my speed controllers,(car and spare),they tested fine per the above link, cleaned and lubbed them both. Both the transistors from the heater and a/c...

Re: Fan speed control
Hmmm, sounds kinda strange, that they would both blow at the same time... Posible I guess... Is there a way for a non electronicly inclined person to test these resistors? I can handle a volt/ohm meter if someone can tell me what to look for...would love to have a way to test the speed controll as w...

Fan speed control
Hi guys, wondering if I can get a second opinion from the experts. '88 csi, heater fan comes on full speed as soon as I turn the ignition key to run, and I have no control over the fan speed, the fan speed knob on the dash does nothing. When I select A/C, the heater fan shuts off and the a/c fan com...

Re: Heated seats
So I am looking at the wiring diagram for the heated seats, and I do not see any relays in the system.. Am I to understand correctly that both heating elements for both seats run thru fuse 16 (15amp)? And all power runs thru the switches? 180 watts doesn't seem like a lot of heat.... And a lot to ru...

Re: Quick sanity check on fan operation
A little further investigation..... It seems that there is no control over the fan speed in "variable mode" but you can actually hear the micro switch make on "full " and the fan speed changes slightly.... Seems like something Is certainly messed up inside.... Not the usual failu...

Quick sanity check on fan operation
So I currently have only High fan available on either the heater or the a/c fan, what would indicate a transistor failure in the dashboard fan controller.. However the thing that is strange about it is that i have NO controll what so ever over either fan, They come on full bore as soon as i turn the...

It does if you run Motronic 1.3 , what is a -179 ECM what is the late 88 and 89 e24's only. Your '85 will not have those, so, no stomp test. And no retrofit possible I believe unless you swap engines and harness... So are you saying that your e31 has 2 ECM's, each one running a bank on 6 cylinders ?...

I nearly bought an M635CSi that had original heated and electric memory sports seats so yes, they can be fitted. I have an unused OEM loom and two of the very, very rare E24 heating switches and will some heating pads to my seats. One day  Yeah, I already grabbed the switches... Maybe I will ...

Heated seats
Does anyone know if heated seats were an option with Sport seats? Or just the comfort seats? Found a 635 that is being parted out and was wondering if it was worth the time and effort to rip the wiring harness out to add to my car...my car has sports, the donor has comfort seats.. I am sure I can fi...

If you are switching from R12 to R134a, I was told the system must be flushed even if the compressor is new. How do you do it and what solvent is used? Thanks for the great thread. I always figure that if it is a MAJOR job just to get to and clean out an old part, I will swap it for new if price is reasonable. I have no desire to EVER re-do a repair. Jose Yeah, I hear you, hate doing things twice, specially if it's a pain to get to... I will probably follow your lead and just...

No, I did not replace all the other hoses inside the car. I only swapped out the melted and crumbling hoses by the exhaust headers. I have parts and spare hose to do everything else, but a complete teardown is not what I was interested in accomplishing at this time. I needed the car back on the roa...
