Re: Optimum Flywheel weight
14 lbs. is about the weight of a 533i/M5 flywheel, which some guys use vs. the stock 535/635 flywheel which weighs about 22 lbs. Most consider it an upgrade; you'll probably like the way the engine revs up more quickly. I'm using one and both the idle quality and low speed response are fine.

Re: Wheels that I hope will fit
To my eyes, 17" is the ideal wheel size for an E24; mine are RS 198s (17 X 8.5, ET13) with 245/40 tires. Next time tires are due, I think I'll switch to a slightly less aggressive, more "typical" upgrade size of 235/45. I'd like a slightly larger sidewall for a better ride and to redu...

Re: Where is Brucey, I hope this isn't the answer...
I'm sorry to hear this about Brucey. Besides the fact that he's so knowledgeable about these cars, he's always been a perfect gentleman in his responses to others even if the question has been asked many times before or the answer is obvious to most forum members. This sort of mature, humble, and ki...

Re: Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories car cover (Southern California)
Vintage, indeed! In 1986 I bought a car cover just like that for my '65 Impala; it's covering the car right now. Those things last forever (although mine also has a few tears and stains).

Re: BBS RC090 finish selection opinion
IMO you made the right choice with the silver. A few years ago I restored a set of BBS RS061s for my Zinno E28 and had them done in BBS Gold; they looked terrific but later I regretted my decision because they had too much of an "aftermarket" look on the car. Silver has a cleaner, "fa...

Re: Sean Connery’s BMW 635 is up for auction
I think he was pretty much a hard a$$ in general. In his younger days he was a body builder and martial artist of some sort. He was reportedly once attacked by a gang of thugs in Edinburgh and dispatched them. Afterwards they treated him with respect. There’s also a story about how in 1958, he was f...

I never knew he had owned one!
More proof he was the BEST James Bond. Good taste in colors, too.

Re: 11k Miles 1987 M6 on ebay
Wow; that's by far the highest asking price I've ever seen for an M6. For the sake of anyone actually paying that much I hope it's at least everything they claim it to be. Here's another one (no affiliation) for a more realistic price, with only slightly more miles, in my personal favorite year and ...

Here's mine with Eibach springs (1.25" drop). I think the H&R springs are similar. Also with 17" wheels.

Re: How often do you REALLY flush your brakes?
Absolutely, do all five, four wheels and the clutch slave. I look at the clutch as part of the brake hydraulic system .I do the brakes with all four wheels off, car on jack stands, so it's no big deal to get underneath. I use a Motiv power bleeder, but have vacuum-bled the system many times before ...

Re: How often do you REALLY flush your brakes?
Bentley implies that bleeding the clutch along with the brakes is a "good idea" but not absolutely necessary. Do you guys include flushing the clutch hydraulics as a standard part of the job? And if so, how do you go about it? Pressure bleeder or "reverse" bleeding from the botto...

Re: How to remove backrest from front seats?
Thanks for the help! Last evening I was able to separate the backrest with the help of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUgZ4uoKQkI Once I got the rear cover off, the rest was pretty easy. One thing that threw me was that the cover on my seat ('85 model) is removed by pulling DOWN, not up...

How to remove backrest from front seats?
I need to remove my backrest from my drivers side (comfort) seat in order to have a seam repaired in the cushion. How involved is this process? It looks like each side of the backrest is attached to the metal bracket by two screws, but I need to remove the rear shell in order to get to them. Might b...

How often do you REALLY flush your brakes?
Flushing brakes is easily my least-favorite maintenance task, and is made even worse when it also involves flushing the clutch hydraulics. I use a Motiv pressure bleeder but that doesn't make it any less of a chore. I just don't like working with brake fluid, period. As we know, BMW recommends doing...

Re: BBS RS Center Hex Nut: How Tight?
I decided to contact BBS and get the answer directly from them. They advised to get the nut hand-tight, then use the BBS wrench to turn it about 1/8 additional turn. That's about what I expected, and what I've been doing all these years. So far I've never had one fall off.

BBS RS Center Hex Nut: How Tight?
I have a set of BBR RS198s and have always wondered how tight the large center hex nut is supposed to be. I usually use the BBS hex wrench to snug them down, but is "hand-tight" without a wrench good enough? There are really only several plastic threads that engage to hold them on, and it ...

Beautiful wheels. If they would fit an E28 without having to roll the rear fenders I'd be all over them. GLWS.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
There was nothing else to do on a Covid Thanksgiving Day so (to my wife's chagrin) I was in the garage working on the 6er. Installed new tie rods, center link, idler arm, and upper control (thrust) arms. All Lemforder parts except for the center link which is BMW. I also purchased the beefy E32/750i...

UPDATE: October 4, 2020 The new heater valve I bought in May 2019 is now leaking. I've put only 4,000 miles on the car since installed. So apparently, the issue with these valves had NOT been resolved last year as I had hoped. Now I'm not sure if I should take the risk and order a new valve/washer f...

It's good to be hopeful but make sure it's not kind of Chinese-made copy. You'll want something that will last; changing these is a lotta work...something you really don't want to do more than once.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
I went for a drive up Angeles Crest a few weeks ago. I had the pleasure of chasing a C7 Corvette, Porsche GT4, Porsche Panamera, E90 M3 and a McClaren. I was in the E30 convertible. Yes, I was a little over matched. 20200925_173415.jpg That must have been fun! Did you do the entire route of 65 mile...

Re: BBS style 5 wheel
In my experience wheels with colored centers tend to be a bit polarizing; you either love 'em or hate 'em. A few years ago I restored a set of BBS RS061s that I was going to use on my E28. I debated whether to go with silver or gold centers, but when the time came I chose gold because I thought they...
