Re: E24 M6/635/628 Headlight Wipers

SORN = Statutory Off Road Notification. Whereby an owner of a car declares that it is not being used on the public highways, and is therefore exempt from the obligatory annual UK vehicle "road tax". It can often indicate that a car is not in a roadworthy condition, and is awaiting suitable...

Apparently the car is completely original, unrestored, has never been in the rain, and suffers from zero rust. The asking price is £45,000.

And so #492 appears in the classifieds once again, just over a year later..... http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C747406 The asking price this time has now more than doubled to £27,000. It is described as being in "immaculate showroom condition", although no mention of a timing chain repl...

FS - UK RHD M635CSi #117 (?)

Up for auction this forthcoming weekend, I think this is number 117. http://www.berlinetta-auctions.co.uk/car-auction/25/lot-14-1986-bmw-m635-csi/ Anybody heard of "Siam Grey Buffalo" interior before? Or do you know where the missing 1500 odd RHD examples have been hidden? Strong estimate....

Re: Wind noise

The most common source of wind noise on E24s is the top of the door window area of the big rubber seal that surrounds the whole door/window aperture. Replacing, repairing or refitting the seal can help, as can adjustments to the door glass to help tighten things up at the point where the two meet. B...

Re: how many 635's have you encounter? (Encountered)

On my way back from my local dealer after ordering a couple of little bits for my M635, I've just sighted a grey Highline in Chigwell, Essex, UK. Registration number F477TRR.

Anybody on here??

Duxford this Sunday May 1st

This isn't too far from home and under normal circumstances I would be popping along to this one. Unfortunately, I am committed elsewhere on that day so shan't be able to make it. However, I shall do my best to visit Duxford this Sunday May 1st along with the BMW Car Club GB. Lots (perhaps 10) of E2...

Re: Tools Needed for Toolkit - UPDATE ALL SET NOW

The extendable telescopic plug spanner does seem to fit more snugly with the Heyco markings "upside down", and like you, I feel it should read the right way up. But it doesn't locate so well in the tray so mine remains upside down - it just feels that's the way it's meant to be. Assuming i...

Re: M635csi SGS bonnet gas struts

You are quite right to assume that I am talking about manual (sports) seats. And having never owned an E24 with electric seats, I am certainly in no position to advise on the purpose of the mini strut found in them.
Sorry.

Re: M635csi SGS bonnet gas struts

I knew when the gas struts on needed replacing or re-gassing when.... 1) Pulling up the lever to adjust the back rest angle, the back just flops backwards in an embarrassing fashion, forcing you to reach behind with your other hand to hold it upwards. 2) Pulling up the lever to adjust the seat base ...

Am I not right in understanding that the E24 timing chain longevity issue is confined to the non-catalyst, single chain, M88/3 equipped M635CSi only? If so, then are the vendors comments not completely valid? Please do correct me if I am wrong somebody. My mistake would be in part explained by the f...

I don't think so, Guido. That last link you posted to the ACA website is for B623BNM, Chassis 0760039, a car that has been in and out of the classifieds and through auction a fair bit in the last year. The mileage, registration number prefix and interior trim of this car don't match the car referred ...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?

Mother-in-law came to visit this morning, so I fled to the garage like a stabbed rat and found a few minor cosmetic issues with my M635 to fix whilst I was being talked about. Under the bonnet, I applied fresh black Tesa fabric wiring loom tape to re-cover some sections on which the original wrap ha...

They look good. There is no shortage of E24s out there on silver RCs, so yours would have distinctive look without trying too hard to be different.
I say leave them as is, and spend the money on something else.

Re: M635csi SGS bonnet gas struts

SGS is the company that re-gassed the original mini struts in my manual sports seats about 18 months ago. If I recall, the cost of doing so was about a quarter of the figure requested from my local BMW dealer for new ones and the seat mechanisms are still working perfectly.

And the £50,000 RHD M635 has sold....

... or at least it would appear to have done so. It now shows up in the dealers "sold" section.
I will admit to being more than a little surprised, and intrigued to understand how a UK M635CSi could have been retailed so quickly at anything like the advertised price.
