rear spoiler adhesive - single piece "ducktail"
Hi chaps, There are posts recommending 3M adhesive tape for the two-piece spoiler installation, as per factory setup, but I am struggling to find advice on the adhesive to use for the single piece "rubber" spoiler installation. It appeared to have the remains of some sort of impact adhesiv...

Re: Bilstein rear shocks
It's funny you should say that Phil - I put complete M suspension on this car before changing to Eibachs because the ride height was comedically high. In hindsight, I wonder if I should have waited for it to settle for a bit longer. The same M635 setup was perfect on my burgundy M30'd car and a cros...

new billie 1.jpg new billie 2.jpg new billie 3.jpg Just arrived! Not sure I've ever done a direct B6/B8 comparison before - but the last picture should show the identical shaft length, the "10mm shorter" B8 spec lying in the greater length of the threaded portion. All a bit moot as the ne...

Re: Recaro sprung hinge covers?
Thanks Bert, that's right - definitely Series 1, pre '82. It's the sprung hinges that surprised me - my '81 seats (a different set, as retrofitted to my '84 car) have the "normal" hinges.

Re: Bilstein rear shocks
Not sure what, exactly, is what with Bilstein B8s, but my 0727s have not arrived and I am told that they are no longer being manufactured - there is some stock remaining, somewhere (but not anywhere near me, apparently). I've ordered the softer 24-006071 instead. This will be interesting - I've got ...

Re: Recaro sprung hinge covers?
Just as an update on this, in case anyone else has these seats: they are identical to non-sprung seats in the backrest with the exception of one very important detail: the hinge pin is welded on to the back, rather than screwed in! The point of this being that a return to non-sprung hinges with read...

That's brilliant - thank you. I've got a set of E34 M5 TBs and adapters to go on the B35 I'm building up, but I remember the difference synching the tbs with a manometer on my old M635 made.
Cheers,

Damn! I paid £250 for a similar tool.
Good luck with this, if your bushes are at all worn you may well be in for a treat with the improved handling with new ones.

Re: Subframe Bushing - Source of Clunk Noise
Scott - Those rear subframe bushings seldom go bad, every set I've replaced have been in surprisingly good shape. I have a friend in the Austin, TX who restores BMWs for a living, and he also has observed the same thing....they last for a very long time. I think its due to their stout design and al...

I'm not sure if I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, but your subframe mounting bushes are a likely candidate.
You'd normally notice them being worn out because the handling gets absolutely terrifying though!!!!!!

Re: Trucktec Centre Rod / Drag Link for RHD BMW E24 635csi
Received my Trucktec Right Hand Drive (RHD) Centre Rod assembly today. Initial thoughts: * Quality should be excellent given their German provenance. * No part number markings on the bar AND all-black paint. Makes it impossible to identify as a RHD part for future reference. * I'm going to spray th...

Re: Bilstein & H&R Parts - What is correct?
I just saw this after posting my findings above! Great info here. Just a quick clarification - standard M635CSi has B6 length shocks with shorter bumpstops. The importance of the shorter rear bumpstops can't be stressed enough, or you'll be riding on the bumpstops even with the mild drop the M sprin...

Bilstein rear shocks
Having researched this ages and ages ago when I put H&R's on the rear of the burgundy 635, I'm now putting Bilsteins on the rear of the black project car with the benefit of a bit more info in the hope that it might be of use to anyone else in the same position. The different designations used b...

Re: Rear side panel putty/rust - Replace or sell?
What's the line from "Chernobyl"? "Not great, not terrible." You won't find one that isn't rusty unless it's lived its whole life in a dry environment. You're looking to assess the quality of previous repairs on whatever else you might buy...so you may well be better off fixing t...

Re: Door chrome trim does not line up with the body
I think it's a simple fix - your door doesn't look out of whack, but the chrome appears to have come adrift at the rear. Wind the window down, pull the rubber back and see if the chrome has pulled free of the retaining screw at the very back and lifted off the clips. Probably easiest to remove the m...
