Re: last set of pics for today

Just got through extracting these pics from my camera. They kind of supplement the others and are somewhat self explanatory. You sharp eyed types might notice a few things not mentioned in the current posts or captions. My son's 86 635 can be seen in the background in one of the earlier pics and th...

Switch leak

I had the same problem. The oil came through the switch and the cable conduit and into the injector rail housing where it eventually leaked out around the bellhousing/starter motor!! The "experts" told me it was coming from the head, so after a head lift, new gaskets etc. and it still leake...

Yes - too long is better I think  I did purchase those gaskets thinking it was what I needed for the tail lights - but I quickly realised it wasn't I have fitted them anyway, as I didn't have any on the car to replace. I have ordered the ?40 seals, but they are on back order, so I'm waiting. I...

Washer pumps

Easiest way to check the intensive washer pump is to swop it with the good one from the main bottle (they are all the same on the Highline) As for the 2 pumps on the main bottle, the one nearest the wing is the screen pump and the one closest to the engine is for the lights. There is enough wiring by...

Hi, I am new to the 6 Series scene, but will be going to the Bimmerfest as it is not far from me. What does a Bimmerfest consist of ? I am currently in the process of looking to buy one, so would look forward to meeting owners for advise or maybe see any cars that might be for sale. Welcome to the ...

Brake caliper colour (color)

I sprayed mine the same colour as the car (Misano red).

Acrylic or cellulose is OK to around 450 C.

Still look good.

PS I also had my new discs zinc plated(gold).

Rear light seals

Before I fitted my new seals I soaked them with Autoglym "vinyl and rubber care".Hopefully this stopped the seals behaving like sponges and rusting out the apertures. Have you checked the light frames yet??They are made of shit metal and just rot away. Waxoil is good anywhere but only AFTE...

Boot seal

Try using a plastic scraper and soaking in white spirit. If that is no good

you may have to resort to "thinners".When I fitted my new seal I used

Evostick in the top front corners only. The rest of the seal sits on the

seal channel without glueing and doesn't seem to leak.

Re: Fuel pump

The online OEM parts site says my highline's fuel pump has the same part number as many other types of BMW (e28, e30 etc). Is this the case? Cos my pump's knackered and I've got a spare pump from a 320i kicking around. Garage wants to charge me over ?200 for an E24 fuel pump. Try Eurocarparts. Last...

Re: What to use to cap off the A/C hoses?

Can anyone tell me the thread size of the A/C compressor hose fittings? I need to remove the compressor and I want to have some fittings on hand to cap the hoses as I won't be disassembling the system. The system is running great, there is just a leak at the compressor shaft seal, so no need to reb...

Engine mounting bushes

Hi Ivan, Relatively easy job.Plusglas the top and bottom threads. Block of wood and a trolley jack under the front of the engine. Remove bottom nuts (17mm. hex). Jack engine until thread clears the X-member,remove top nut and you should be able to juggle the mounts out. Ron.

I replaced everything on my steering/brake systems and it's the only "6" that I have ever driven (and I've had 14) that has NO shimmy. I think the biggest cause on my red Highline was 3 cracks on the steering box mounting bracket.Very difficult to see until I removed the front X-member.I d...

Headlight adjusters

Hi Robin, Ref. your query on the hydraulic adjusters. You can still use the hydraulic adjusters manually as they have a screwed body which is clipped into the frame. If they are loose, it's probably the plastic socket. (part number 63 12 1 386 616) The ball joint on the end of the adjusting rod clip...
