Re: Updating an M635csi Track Car to a Race Car

The crank in my 4.0L S38 is a billet steel piece with forged Pauter rods so I'm hoping it should be stout!

I'll shoot you a PM but I'm thinking that having Pip build the engine may not be a bad idea, need to mull it over and see if the bank (wife) will approve.

Re: Updating an M635csi Track Car to a Race Car

The Jag is heavier but has a lot more torque with the V12. The BMW does turn faster lap times at Road America. We'll be running at COTA in a few weeks and I expect the BMW to do a bit better with the high revving S38. I've been keeping the rev limiter at 6000 to preserve the motor but I'm going to b...

Re: Updating an M635csi Track Car to a Race Car

So I finally got around to doing a prototype adapter plate and managed to get a tko adapted to an M30. I posted the pictures to my Instagram account @rapidterrier.

Re: Updating an M635csi Track Car to a Race Car

Well a quick update on the car. It performed wonderful at Road America for the second time this year. The next race will be the SVRA national championships at Circuit of the Americas November 1-4. I'm in the process of swapping over to AP Racing front brakes and centerlock wheels. IMG_1890.PNG IMG_0...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

I can tell you 100% that you can run a line directly from the pump to the box without a restrictior. I have done just that on my Group A car using an E28 line. I didn’t have a restrictor on my car in the line from the regulator to the box so I’m not sure which markets or cars had that.

1985 M635csi Chassis RA1-007 Tribute Build in Texas

Well I mentioned earlier this year that this car would be going up for sale so I figure its about time to do just that. I'll be racing it at Road America at the Weathertech International Challenge July 19-22 if anyone can make it out. The car is an absolute blast to drive and race. It is super relia...

Re: Hydro brake mystery

Check your supply line from the reservoir to the pump. Over time this line can degrade and collapse. Also check the filter for clogs. This could also be a fluid supply issue.

Unfortunately I don't think I can post the videos here.

Re: Hydro brake mystery

Sounds like the accumulator went bad again. The squeal is interesting and could have been a slipping belt which would cause you to lose pressure and a hard pedal. Check your belts for slippage or even throw on a new belt and see if that helps (its cheap and easy). Or you could just delete the hydrob...

Re: Removing Booster and Installing New AN Style Lines

Thought I would update this. Drove the car yesterday sans booster and all that mess. No issues running a line directly from the pump to the box. I also installed a hayden transmission cooler for a power steering cooler in the return line. And FYI there was no restrictor in the stock power steering l...

Re: Removing Booster and Installing New AN Style Lines

The car is a Group A FIA Clone of Chassis RA1-007 with a 450shp 4.0L S38. Rear brakes are wilwood 4 piston with 12" rotors and front are 4 Piston Wilwood NASCAR road course calipers with 13" rotors. The masters are dual tilton with a bias bar using a setup from Lee at MassiveBrakes.com tha...

Re: Removing Booster and Installing New AN Style Lines

So why won’t Teflon AQP aeroquip hope rated for over 2500psi work? Or are you saying that running from the pump to the box won’t work?

Re: Removing Booster and Installing New AN Style Lines

i looked all over my lines and don't see a restricter so I got some AQP high pressure teflon hose and I'm going to run it.

Removing Booster and Installing New AN Style Lines

So I've been researching and researching and I'm trying to redo my power steering hoses to eliminate the hydroboost. It's a race car so its not needed.

Can I run an AN Style Line from the pump output directly to the box? I've been reading something about a restricter?

Thanks

Re: Updating an M635csi Track Car to a Race Car

I can't say enough good things about Powerplant. Henry answers the phone and email and has given me good support after the sale. The red paint is a generic GM paint code for "Red."

Re: Updating an M635csi Track Car to a Race Car

The E39 wheels came in an 8/9 stagger and I was able to acquire two sets locally. It's a vintage race car so 5lbs of weight (even unsprung) isn't going to matter. 8.5 is too narrow for the 275 R7s out back. As far as handling it's a very neutral car. It has very nice turn in with good power on overs...

Re: Updating an M635csi Track Car to a Race Car

Well the car is finished and I was able to complete my first SCCA event this past weekend gaining a novice permit and well on my way to a full SVRA licence. Next up on the task list are to adjust the valves, sync the throttle bodies, check the clutch and add a scatter shield and redo the brakes (lea...

Re: Updating an M635csi Track Car to a Race Car

Quick update on the car progress. It is back from Winding Road Racing in Austin TX. They installed a new 8 point cage with cross bracing, new mounts for an FIA 6 point harness and they trimmed the dash to fit the new cage. I've also got the interior and trunk painted red like the original car, and t...

Re: M635csi rare euro parts.

Thanks. I need to make sure the new setup is good to go before I sell them. I actually wasn't going to sell them but with constant track use I figured getting a setup with more pad compounds available made more sense.
