You are correct. I have double-checked my M635 with M-Tech bumpers and they are exactly the same as all Euro E24s & E32s. Hope this helps

Did the heater work OK before you replaced the transistor?

I have found that clear silicone around both sides of the rear light gaskets will cure any water ingress at that point.

IMO it would be a shame to drill holes unnecessarily. In a few years, the sensors will probably have ceased to operate and you have an E24 with ugly holes in it Consider all the E24s with evidence of car phones having been fitted at some time or another!

Back to my usual advice. Instal a "known-good" FPR to see it it makes any difference
