Re: ...yet another crank but no start issue

Hornhospital, thanks again.. I was just about to leave for a week's trip with my 6er and my mechanic has just closed, I know you can't read the future  , but do you think it's an issue that I can live with until I get back or is it bound for a starter failure very soon? thanks for your help...

Re: ...yet another crank but no start issue

Back to basics: Does it have spark? If not, distributor cap, rotor, wires, coil or position/speed sensors. Possibly ECU Does it have fuel pressure? If not, is it getting power to the pump? Relay faulty, pump(s) may be dead, or again, position/speed sensors Does it have injector pulses? same as abov...

Re: ...yet another crank but no start issue

Without a doubt, it was something your guy did if the car was OK before! Since you paid him to do the job, suggest you get him to go right over everything and sort it out. Maybe get him to post his questions on here as well. With respect, since you were obviously not confident to do the work yourse...

...yet another crank but no start issue

Hi guys, I've been through many no start posts but still can't figure out what's the culprit, hope you can shed some light on this…. Just got my dealer to install new dizzy cap, rotor arm, ignition wiring, FPR, (all good bosch stuff) water pump, fan clutch, and got the valve-rocker clearance adjuste...

Re: Stutters at idle, randomly

Hi guys :D the previous stuttering at idle problem was fixed but cleaning the ICV and spraying contact cleaner on the AFM circuitry. However it now has developed a new minor issue… With a cold engine, when I release the throttle rpms go down close to 0 then up before levelling out at 600, stops doin...

Re: Noise from the A/C

First thing I would do is put a set of gauges on it and check the pressures. Might just be low on refrigerant. Thanks for your feedback dwcains :D ! It's actually always been making the same noise before and after recharging the refrigerant liquid…. Can you make a guess as to what is making that no...

Noise from the A/C

Hi guys :D , hope you can recognise this sound and identify the cause... I hear this noise from the air con when in use, it also seems to switch on and off (the compressor?) very frequently, is that normal? Here's a recording I made: http://web.tiscali.it/webspace7/635CSi_9-86_air_con_noise.mp3 Do y...

Re: Stutters at idle, randomly

Update! :D Just turned the engine on for 30 sec and immediately checked the CSV and... there it was, glistening with petrol seeping trough the hose attachment, not much but clearly visible! Probably badly reattached when I got the new CSV fitted 3 months ago. Thank you so much Brucey! =D> =D> =D> Ro...

Re: Stutters at idle, randomly

I would normally recommend that you find one problem at a time and fix it, changing one thing at a time as you go. If you do otherwise you risk generating multiple faults and that can lead to a car that 'never quite works right' ever again. I never considered that Brucey  , I always thought ...

Re: Stutters at idle, randomly

BTW a faulty ICV is obviously going to affect idle, but is very unlikely to cause a mid-throttle stumble unless other fault(s) are present. Dear Brucey thanks :D , as a matter of fact I remember him saying he also gave a little clean at the AFM, but he said that was in pretty good condition already...

Re: Stutters at idle, randomly

Dear Brucey and Sansouci, thanks again for you kind feedback! :D It turns out that cleaning the ICV solved the stuttering idle issue, it's been more than a month now and absolutely no stuttering at all after cleaning it! \:D/ Also bought new dizzy cap, rotor arm, ignition leads, coil and FPR and wil...

Re: Stutters at idle, randomly

Caps can develop carbon tracking which is more troublesome in damp weather. Just polishing the contacts isnt enough. If the rotor is toast, it has been arcing everywhere. Hi sansouci, thanks for your feedback! :D I guess you mean I should go for the original BMW dizzy cap so.. Can I bother you with...

Re: Stutters at idle, randomly

Wow Brucey :D , thanks for such a prompt and detailed answer!! Oh my, I really hope it's not the ECU, I gather a new one is pretty expensive… Ok so while I wait for the fault to reappear so that I can make those tests you kindly mentioned I will, as suggested but you, also replace the dizzy ...

Stutters at idle, randomly

Hi guys :D , hope someone has already experienced this and might be so kind of suggesting a solution… Looks like a lighter version of an issue I experienced a while ago, but with different symptoms. :-k Car goes smoothly, then the engine suddenly gives a very quick jerk while cruising, as if it very...

Hi guys, here I am again… It's been going nice and smooth for six months, not a single hesitation, so it really looked like changing the speed and the reference sensors had finally solved the problem. That is…. until yesterday! #-o After 6 months here it is again, however only part of ...

if you leave the car overnight any small leak in the system's valves (which is quite normal) will cause the reservoir to fill itself as you describe. The only time the reservoir should definitely be low on oil is immediately after the engine is run . If it is, and the reservoir refills when the bra...

Hi guys, there is a little change in the symptoms, no intermittent stiffening anymore, but a constant slight stiffening of the steering all the time, at warm engine, like the PS is helping roughly 20/30% less of how it normally should… As suggested by you I just checked the belt, it's quite new, f...

Will check accordingly to your suggestions. As a matter of fact I forgot to say that I also hear some noise only when I reach both right and left limits of the steering, just wondering if this is normal....

fixing squeaks and rattles over bumps

Hi guys, it's finally "issue fixing season" and I'd like to address a nuisance that's been bugging me for a while now. Every time I go over a pot hole or some irregularity I get a whole orchestra of little "plasticky" squeaks and rattles coming from the interior, mainly from the ...
