Re: Series one sunroof question.

Thank you Ralph . I've located and retrieved the rain gutter and it's obvious that the problem was down to lack of lubrication on the LHS. The next hurdle is to fit the plastic connector onto the tang on the underside of the rain gutter , it would seem to be impossible to do usless the rain gutter w...

Re: Series one sunroof question.

Well that was disappointing ...... Determined to get to the bottom of this I went out and re examined the sunroof as a whole this evening . Looking inside the sunroof cartridge there is a raised rib that the ends of the rod align with .The rods are too loose to run on this rib so I concluded that th...

Series one sunroof question.

Since I got the car (10 years ) the sunroof panel has just "kissed" the edge of the roof scuffing the paint but not scratching . I overcame the problem by pushing down on the panel as it opened . I have a genuine series one BMW workshop manual and the adjustment of the roof panel is covere...

Re: And you wonder why the front sills and floor rust ?

There are punched drain holes along the sills but these are prone to blocking through external and internal dirt ,cavity wax if applied and/or stonechip underseal on the outside surface . IIRC the first drain from the front is far enough back that if the car is parked on a forward facing incline wat...

That's very upsetting Song ,I'm glad that you're OK though . One never knows what is around the next corner ......
I have no doubt that you , with the energetic enthusiasm that you have ,will be able to repair the car .
I wish you well and success in getting it back on the road .
Good luck .

Re: Rear side panel putty/rust - Replace or sell?

Your car looked lovely but let me give you my honest assessment based on your photos . The sills require replacement and will certainly require further extensive work on the internal structure . The sills consist of three sections pinch welded along the lower flange .The photos show evidence of dist...

Definitely go for the smaller ,later e34 M30B starter it will allow you to keep the use of all your knuckles . I just checked Ebay UK and there are several for not a lot of money . Soft and pliable or hard and solid ? Former , heat gun and selection of scrapers , selection of small wire cup brushes on a flexible shaft , small die grinder . remove the petrol flap area and wash . Latter, air chisel with blunted blades , hand chisels , scrapers and die grinder , stiff hand wire b...

Looking back at some old photos I was wrong in saying that the case splits ....
If you detach it from it's mounting to the inner wing and invert it you will expose the soldered joints I speak off.

Re: No Crack - Melted Fuse

First thing I'd do is detach the fuse holder tray from the case and examine the wiring on the underside of the fuse holders . These are all soldered joints and I experienced a fault condition on a lighting circuit that took a long while to trace to a poor soldered joint in that very area . It's poss...

Re: Flasher / Indicator / turn signal intermittent: possibly a relay issue?

Diagnosing problems over the internet is notoriously difficult but .... My first port of call would be the hazard flasher unit . As you can see all the circuits are connected to it so a total failure would suggest it as a possible culprit . P1020941.JPG These switches , in LHD format , are cheap but...

Thanks Bob but , and forgive me if I have misunderstood this , did you do the flocking yourself or was it done professionally ?
I thought the flock had to be " charged " to adhere to the surface .

That's very impressive Bobbo.
I'll have to blank off the auto gear indicator lights on my binnicle when I go manual therefoe this is of great interest to me .
Can you enlighten us as to what's involved in this and how you acheived it .

Thanks for the reply . Yeah , I found those part nos. but as the drawing used was the same for auto and manual showing the same components I wanted to ensure that the 28mm was the correct one . Herr Walloth replied to my question and sent the link to the 28mm version . https://www.wallothnesch.com/e...
