Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!
Hmmmm, my Hirschmann mount sits much lower on/in the fender. The topper ball is very small, and withdraws into the base when retracted. :-k (yes, the paint really is that bad. :( ) This wasn't an original antenna but an aftermarket universal antenna. I do have an original Hirschman now that I need ...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!
I'm not defending the scum that did that, but why was the antenna up? The power antenna is supposed to retract when you shut the car down, at least mine does. This was confusing because it was retracted. It looks like they tried to unscrew it from the base and when it wouldn't detach, they yanked i...

Oh come on!
I've been using my car as a daily commuter to the train station. I park it in the lot across the street from the platform. Although there are assorted issues, it's been serving me well. Today when I returned from work to commute home, I noticed that my antenna was in an odd position. Looking closely...

Shopping for best option for replacement water pump. Trying to find one with a composite impeller. You sure you want composite? I changed my pump but got a metal impeller. I've read that they will last much longer. Mine was an Airtex brand. It appears to be really well made and it's been working wo...

Nice work Song. I appreciate all the pics you include in your thread. If I wasn't so lazy I would do the same. Now that you have replaced the front sway bar links do you notice any difference. I have all those parts to install as well and wonder how much I'll notice. Cheers Dave Dave, not too notic...

Thermostat cover replacement
This is one of the easiest jobs I have ever done on this car. It took about 20-30 minutes and I was even able to collect the coolant and reuse it without issue. I noticed during all my shenanigans with the Thermostat, that the neck of the various housings was corroded. Although they worked, they cle...

Resistance specs on a fuel level sender
I purchased a new fuel level sender at a cost of $200 to fix my whacky fuel gauge. Well, my fuel gauge is still whack. I decided to take the old sender and see if I could verify that it was working. I took a few reading using a multimeter to see what the resistance specs were. I am hoping that someo...

Completely solved my intermittent Odo problem
So I thought I would update this thread and let you know that I have completely fixed my errant odometer. It turns out that one of my gears was sliding about the pin and getting disengaged from a gear. You have to figure out a way to keep the gear in place. I put some pictures in my project post htt...

Re: What is this connection?
This post cracks me up.
This is part of the reason I spend so much spare time on this forum. It's not only educational, it's entertaining.
I've also discovered a few seemingly abandoned connectors. I leave them alone unless I can know for sure what they do.

Very nice Derrick. Agreed about the ride height. Not sure where the center cap stickers are available but I have seen them. I do have your parts on hand but just trying to get them all together. Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Song, bookmark this URL: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/ It's extremely helpful for identifying OEM BMW wheels. It gives sizes (diameter, width AND offset) for each BMW model each style the wheels were available on, and gives various pictures of each style. Click on each individual listing and it wi...

Thermostat finally right!
After weeks of annoyance, I installed the new thermostat and everything is good in e24 land again. The car runs with the temp gauge at the 11 o'clock position now! I got a 75C thermostat. It was advertised as a "performance" part since it's 5C lower than the stock 80C. I figured that summe...

Thermostat Madness
So I ordered and picked up my new thermostat. I don't have time to put it in this evening as it's too late. But I did do a side by side with the 80C thermostat that I replaced with the 71C thermostat. Here's a picture below with the side by side. They are VERY different. The 6mm variance at the bott...

Thanks, Song, for this thread and the pics. My car is missing this piece, too. Just ordered one from ECS. I hope it shows up, as they say availability date is 5/31. Just in case, where did you source yours? I bought mine from the BMW dealer in Monterey, California. You see, they are only about 50 m...

Yup, I was noticing the same thing. See this thread http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19520&p=138856#p138856 about the two different thermostat housings and the correct thermostat for each. Also note that the gasket/O ring goes on the outside on one, and the inside on the other...

If the thermostat gasket isn't like the picture, that's an OOPS! The two types of thermostats have springs of different lengths. Updating some cooling system parts.
A long time ago when I started this adventure, I had to do some cooling system work. I noticed that the thermostat housing on the car was severely corroded. In fact one of the necks for the hose had a hole in it! However, it was in a place that could be covered up with a hose and clamp. So I left it...

Odometer and Speedo fixed?
This afternoon I once again removed my instrument cluster trying to figure out so many things. Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!
The sender is all but impossible to repair. I tried, to no avail. The switch on the sender that operates the low fuel light is however fairly reliable. If you have a problem with the fuel sender variable float resistor, then that will adversely effect your OBC read out as well, as the OBC takes its...

Re: Whos e24 has a broken odometer? Odometer gears here!
@songzunhuang DAMNIT! @Garagistic, it needs to be made clear on how to remove the brass sleve. It should be on a piece of paper when you send the gears. You squeeze it (don't even have to squeeze it hard) with needlenose or other pliers, and it warps it out of shape and makes it loose so it just sl...

New Fuel level sender
I finally broke down and paid $200 for a new fuel level sender. I installed it this morning before heading to work. So as usual, I have a few observations an questions. 1. The new part fit ok, but it seems longer than the original. I am hoping it doesn't matter. 2. Can the fuel gauge be calibrated? ...

Re: Adapting a parallel flow condensor...
I agree about not mounting the driver on the condenser. There is room front/back, but the width is not so great, so you need maximum air flow. I would not want to reduce fan size to fit a drier. I have purchased a 19X16 parallel flow condenser, and will be mounting it with my high volume fan. I hav...
