Yes, I agree but is this amount of slack OK for an initial run on the starter motor?hornhospital wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 1:59 am Spinning up an engine before actually firing it up is always a good idea.

Re: Purpose of the 11311308309 diaphragm?
I have now started changing over to the new tensioner. I have removed the original S38 unit and have offered up the new S50 part. I have only tightened the unit hand-tight and have a few questions; In the process of preparation, the new tensioner piston popped open and the spring went flying. Cleane...

Generally, you can get six injectors serviced for the price of one new. More affordable way to troubleshoot.

Here's an article on a similar issue with bimetallic thermo timers (item #9 on your RealOEM doc) being NLA regarding Volvo ES with the D-Jet version of injection. There may be some cross referencing possible here. http://winkler.io/life-savers-for-owners-of-a-volvo-p1800es-and-others-with-d-jetronic/

Re: My M635 is eating main relays
It would be interesting to know which side of the relay dies? The control side or the load? FYI; The control signal (low amperage) flows between terminal #85 and #86 on the relay. The load signal (higher amperage) flows between terminal #30 and #87 on the relay. Quite simply the low voltage side of ...

I had the whole rear apart a few years ago while I was re-dying the interior. Also a good time to vacuum and clean out that whole area. I'll give a shout out to Jay Stratton and his rebuilding work. Sent my wingcell away to him earlier this summer and it came back like new. I have no issues paying f...

opinion on chain/sprocket, please
I have dug down and am having a look at the timing chains on my 148,000 mile S38. As you can see on the pictures, there is some scuffing on the upper chain guide and some polishing on the bottoms of the sprocket notches (dark areas are reflection). Cold starts, after sitting for a week, have no chai...

BTW, I was surprised how easily the plugs all unscrewed. If you look closely at the crush washer, as compared to the new Bosch, they barely look squeezed.

Re: Spark plug socket
Problem solved! Someone slipped some NGKs in there so a 5/8" thinwalled plug socket managed the job. I was hesitant to just push the socket down there and hope it wouldn't jam so I pulled the rubber from the inside of the tool and tested the fit - relief. Plugs look OK except for some barnacles...

Spark plug socket
Another day in the garage, another question. I am preparing to measure my valve clearances so I thought I'd start by shooting some air down the plug holes and removing the plugs. I purchased a thin walled, 18mm socket that I'd hoped would work in my S38 from http://www.lockitsocket.com/ - no such lu...

Great info - I'll follow up on the Seattle book store option.
I'll also find a few moments to scan the M88 engine pages I've got - shall I PM them to you Jose and you can add to your file?

Re: Need a service manual.
I realize any M6 information will always be an addendum to a manual but your link has the correct S38 chapter, as opposed to my own. I'll print out the relevant pages and substitute them in my manual. Thanks for the links.

Need a service manual.
I need a manual for my 1987 US spec M6 with the S38 engine. I got a BMW service manual from the PO but the M6 engine references are all to M88. I'm working on valve adjustment next (exhausts measure tight) and would like to have some decent reference material. Can anyone suggest some manuals for sal...

Found it! Hiding behind the wiring harness. Much appreciated.hornhospital wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 7:55 pm The ??? one is what goes to the interior temperature sensor. It connects to a semi-rigid nylon line that goes through the firewall and then to a short rubber tube that goes to the sensor under the dash, behind the lower dash panel.

Vacuum connections on throttle body

I have studied my picture files but have no documentation on the second connection to the center vacuum block that on the top side of the central throttle body - opposite the fuel pressure regulator vacuum connection port. Hav...

New fuel line connections
Just want to confirm the flow direction of the fuel lines going to and from the fuel rail on my '87 S38 M6. RealOEM shows this as pressurized fuel from the pump going into the rail and the regulator bleeding off the excess pressure via the external pipe to the tank - is this correct?

Re: Where have all the parts gone?
Ross, We have an excellent hydraulics shop here where I live. They have been helpful on many other projects but, being a mining supply shop, they do tend to over-spec things. My plan was to replace all the rubber lines that are associated with the 120BAR PSP system since there is quite a lot of evid...

Hoard while you can.... No matter how large your garage, it's never big enough. I've currently got three cars to support. My original Mini is a breeze - just about everything is available. My Volvo 1800ES is mechanically the same as any Amazon or 140 series Volvo but the trim, glass and dashboard h...
