Re: Interior Lights
The clicking is from the relay mounted on the firewall. If you put a finger on it, while pressing/releasing the door jamb switch, you'll be able to tell which one it is. I'd pull it out and try some contact cleaner first, but replacements are available new and used. I installed one from an E30 on my...

Re: Interior roof trim removal?
i've done this job a few imes on my car. The hardest part is getting the front edge of the header panel to tuck under the windshield rubber. I used a bunch of popsicle sticks, cut in half, to hold down the edge of the rubber. Space the sticks a few inches apart, and the panel will slide right in. ht...

Re: Black fan vs. red/orange fan (fan clutch)
The satin top coat makes it look very original. I have another red fan that came in the spares when I bought the car, but it had some chips at the end of its blades, so I deemed it unreliable.

Re: Black fan vs. red/orange fan (fan clutch)
I'm keeping the red fan, on a technicality, as my car's production date is 10/84. Many of the later M635's seem to have a red fan, too.

Re: Black fan vs. red/orange fan (fan clutch)
I'd avoid the super-cheap parts you see listed on eBay, and I also think you;d be hard-pressed to find a new red fan even if they were better. When I was researching which fan was "correct" for my car, it seems the red fans were replaced by the black sometime in '85 or '86. https://photos....

Re: M6 Caliper Rebuild Service
I was doubtful you'd want to send them all the way to Florida, and there must be countless shops in your area that can do such work. Just wanted to offer and example, and cost approximation. For thr sake of authenticity, you might consider having your calipers plated, rather than powder-coated anyway.

I don't have the bookmark handy, but there's a guy on myE28 who has a similar dot-matrix panel for our E24/28's. It replaces the SI indicator, signal indicators, as well as the water temp and fuel gauges.

i know a local shop that will strip them and powdercoat any color you like. He knows ho to properly mask off the areas that shouldn't be coated, and can even apply emblems under the final clear-coat layer, if desired. Assembly, which is basically jut reintalling the pistons is a piece-of-cake. Hear ...

Re: 1985 635 Csi (Euro) 5sp - Jet Black
Mine snuck through customs in Miami without the ugly side markers. Only things it got were the sealed beam lights (wired incorrectly), a placebo charcoal canister (no vacuum lines), and US instrument panel and OBC (which I m just now correcting.) First day home. Re: New Seat Struts for e24 Manual Seats
For example, if you have the seat back reclined, when you pull up on the lever to have the back move into a more vertical position, it should move by itself. In mine, I need to lean forward, reach behind my head to grab the seat back with one hand, and pull it up while my other hand pulls up the lev...

No way I would have ever attempted that job. I hated that car and it was nothing but trouble, but good for you on getting it done. Ours needed 2 evaporators in 3 years, and that was enough for me.

Re: Gauge needle painting:
I haven't had the chance to install the Euro gauges, but if there is a problem I can pull the needles of the old US gauges and try the Sharpie. The vendor of the fluorescent paint claims anything other than his product will look dark at night, so I'm hoping it doesn't have a negative effect on the g...

Re: My 6'er
Is aluminum supposed to be better? My wife had a Volvo 850T and the aluminum evaporators in those cars failed regularly every couple of years, and each time it was a $1300 repair. I was so happy when that car got rear-ended and totaled.

You should have asked me earlier in the week before I put the console back together. But, round speakers come in4 1/2", 5 1/4" and 6 1/2" sizes, which actually refers to the diameter of the hole required. If you can find a simple grille for a 5 1/4" speaker, that would likely be ...

I've actually got a can of the SEM Matte clear, but honestly, those two little chrome strips are fairly unobtrusive. Haven't driven around with it long enough to make a decision, yet. Sure sounds good, though, even without the amps and subwoofer I'll install soon.

It's not bad. The only chrome are the two strips, top and bottom, and I'm tinking about rubbing them off with a pencil eraser. Still undecided.

Re: Replacing center console (HVAC) bulbs
They won't be too bright. I ended up using the original bulbs (2) in my car's HVAC panel. I just couldn't find any LEDs which dispersed their light in a wide enough pattern t do the job as well as a filament bulb. I did use an LED in every other spot, with good results, though.

Re: Cold A/C but only in the back seat
I think that front/rear proportioning valve (voltage regulator as realoem calls it), just from what I've been reading from guys with dual-a/c cars, is the root of all the trouble you guys seem to be having. I certainly can't get the airflow you guys get in my single-a/c car, but the simplicity of th...
