When you rebuild the starter, don't forget to do the solenoid.

I'd look for an independent shop that rebuilds starters and alternators.
If you do, make sure they also pay attention to the solenoid.

Not me. I sent mine out to be cleaned, instead of buying new.
I don't know if you have this, but these are very good diagnostic
tests you should perform before guessing at a solution.

Re: It's alive!
Congrats on your success so far.
I advise using stainless steel lines for the oil gauge.
Also, wrap the lines with electrical tape near any
wire harness. That will avoid the steel edges from chafing
the wires.

Re: How to Cycle ABS Pump?
I don't think there'll be any trapped fluid in the pump.
The lines from the master cylinder go to the pump then to the
individual wheels. The fluid in the pump gets flushed out.

Re: Cool in AZ now, no heat in e24
First, check fuse # 19. But if your AC works then it's good. I don't think air would be trapped if the valve opened to the flow of coolant. I would test that the valve opens and closes with the temp knob. This ETM is from 1986, but it should be very similar to your 83. Go to page 6411-0 (that will b...

Re: Carpet removal
IIRC you need to remove the console to get to the back screws for the plastic grill.
No need to remove the grill alone, it's the vent allowing air in for the AC.

Really nice example of a well kept Bimmer. The front
seats are especially in remarkable condition. I've own
my 86 since 88 and my front seats have scuffed and cracked.
I think your price is just right for this 86.

Re: Crank, no start.
I would check the battery with a fully charged load test. After a couple of months sitting and limited alternator charging during the drive, the battery may have enough to crank but not enough for the ign. system. I just had the same problem this month with a similar situation. Trickle charged for a...
