Please confirm that those are all the parts you need. I have a spare end piece here and you should be able to use the spring and L-tab from the e-28 unit. Thanks I can also send you more C-clips!! Ralph Ralph, I think I am ok with C-Clips as long as I don't lose the last one I have. I noticed there...

Song, Look carefully at the hole where the bearings and spring go in. The hole is a little offset to allow for the end piece to retain one ball while you push down the other side with a small flat tip driver. You can then slide the end piece completely over the ball you are holding down. It seems t...

Welcome to the ever frustrating world of BMW door locks. My only advice at this stage is to not give up and read my posts on the subject. I read everything I could find on this. One thing I wish was that there was a way to replace the older lockset with a new one. the ones with the plastic levers a...

Song, Sort of like a jigsaw puzzle without a cover picture and it's missing parts. BTW, the word is voila, French for "there it is." Those d#$! ball bearings. I must have searched for those 5 or six times whenever then decided to pop into the atmosphere. Also one of my lock wafers dropped...

Changing out the locks is not so easy...

Wow, it was one of those annoying days. I spend over 2 hours messing with my driver's side door lock and I never got it to work. Let me try and explain. After getting a bag of locks from Ralph, I was able to get a barrel and wafers all set up to work with my key. So far so good. I studied the differ...

Song, In your Solder2.png, do you think this was a manufacturing defect or could this develop over time? It was self inflicted. There were a few joints that may have gotten "cold" over time, but my first attempt at re-flowing the joints was a disaster. The picture was after my attempted r...

Re-keying my locks

So thanks to Ralph in SoCal, I had a bunch of locks to examine as I prepared to figure out how to fix my door locks. For some reason, both my front door locks decided to stop working with my key. The key works in the ignition, glove compartment and trunk. But not in the main doors. After about 2 hou...

A bit of a tangent - suspension.

Like the suspension? Yes, like the suspension. I was pushing on each corner of the car and watching the rebound this evening. It seems pretty reasonable. There's no uncontrolled oscillation. I've always thought my front was too high. Instead of changing all the springs, maybe I'll just get a...

on my car the chime is a separate module in the knee panel. If it drives you nuts, just unplug it! BTW one reason for the chime is if the external temperature drops below a certain point (freezing) . Unfortunately the temp sensor is such that if its connection goes intermittent, or breaks it reads ...

I went through the same adventure and it worked for a while. Now, the OBC screen sometimes goes off and I hear chimes or beeps. The it'll come back on and work perfectly for a while. Sometimes a few days, others a few seconds and then it'll shut off again. Anyone have idea what is going on? My fuse (...

Re: Another piece of the puzzle

Last night when the display was not working, I also tried to hook up the horn and it blared like crazy. There is some link between whatever is disabling the display and what is triggering the horn.... I think this has to be either a failure of the power supply to the OBC or a failure of the interna...

Relay and wires identification please..

There are a few relays up in the driver footwell that I am wondering about. What is their function and could one of them have cause my OBC horn to stay on continuously? In the first picture you can see the lever for securing the hood. This gives you a good idea where this picture was taken. The othe...

The weirdness continues

I pulled the main OBC computer and looked for something resembling a relay - nothing. The OBC computer is just two circuit boards facing each other with the components on the inside and the PC board circuits on the outside. Not much I could do, but I did check the fuse (ok) and also sprayed some ele...

OK, I will have to test the "Door Open" case. I really can't test the below freezing temp case as in California where I live, it may be a long, long time before those kinds of temps arise. The speed case is interesting. I do notice it chiming when I drive. However, I haven't set any speed ...

So I just wanted to follow up to this thread. I've driven the car over 1,000 miles now and the rear has got some of the bounce back. So I had the same issue on the family Volvos. Here's my experience in pictures. I used a product called Leather Magic. It's a water based vinyl. OBC Chiming - what does it mean?

So I have been having intermittent OBC (On Board Computer) problems ever since the alarm horn went on and wouldn't stop. I ended up disconnecting the alarm horn and everything appeared to be fine. My OBC acted as expected. Then one day, the OBC screen went dark. While driving around I started notici...

Coverking Dash Cover

So I've been looking for a replacement dash since mine is so cracked up. I can't find anything and whatever I find is wicked expensive. So for the time being, I got a dash cover. Overall, it's a pretty good fit but I got the one without the coin area by accident. Oh well, it still looks pretty good....
