Re: Best contact cleaner for instrument panel?
Dean, Deoxit is where it's at, but I don't use the spray. I use the pen: https://www.amazon.com/DeoxIT-Pen-NSN-6850-01-477-1444-100-solution/dp/B001EQ7H82/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502299333&sr=1-1&keywords=deoxit+pen Be careful with the full strength stuff, as it can eat...

Electrical Identification in Engine Bay
Hey guys,
Could someone help me identify the part circled in the image below? It's against the firewall on the driver's side of my M635CSi. Is it an ABS something or another? The wire is broken but I don't have any warning lights, so I'm not sure what it's for.
Thanks!
E

Too bright LED is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. I throw these LightDims on just about everything:

Might be good for your gauge.

Re: Air Mass Meter Connector Repair
Following up on this, I THINK the connector is the Bosch EV1 5-pin. I found a kit on eBay in Canada, so I'm going to give it a shot. Will report back.

Air Mass Meter Connector Repair
Hey Fellas, The connector to my Air Mass Meter is cracked, missing the boot, the clip, etc. I just recently rewired the connectors to the temp sensors using a kit that had new pins and everything. Does anyone know of a kit that includes the boot, pins and connector? The parts that RealOEM has listed...

WTB: 1985 M635CSi Washer Assembly
Hey guys, The PO removed the entire washer assembly from my car. I'm looking for the tank, the pump, level switch, etc. Diagram is here: diag_61x.png RealOEM has this as 61661361987 for the big tank. It also looks like my mounting bracket that mounts to the car has been broken as well, so that would...

Man those symbols look better. Any idea if that's an insert that can be ordered? RealOEM doesn't really show anything other than words.

Re: Engine Dying at Idle
Well, fellas, just got the coupe back from the mechanic and it's running great. The issue? Plug wires. Seriously. New set of $800 BMW plug wires and the thing is running great. Now I'm not saying all the air leaks and crusty connectors and frazzles wiring and bad air meter wasn't part of the problem...

Hey guys,
I'm waiting for more rubber bits, but I was wondering if the engine has a thermal cutoff switch? Could the engine be overheating?

No O2 sensor, as it's a euro car. Just swapped the AFM over to the Miller MAF setup.

Re: Engine Dying at Idle
@TN_M6 The condition appears after ~10:15 with the car running while parked. Start car, wait. After ~10 minutes, it dies at idle. During the fault condition, you can rev the engine and it kinda goes but it's herky/jerky and not very good. I will check the TPS while the plenum is out of the way. It d...

Re: Engine Dying at Idle
So the installation of the Powerfold intake boots increases the distance from the throttle body to the pleum by ~1.5". This makes the replacement OEM vent hose too short. https://www.askideas.com/media/41/Dog-Sad-Face-Meme-Funny-Picture.jpg In short: ALJKGKJALDGKIJSLDKIGJSD!! So I'm not very ha...

This morning before work, I replaced the coil. Condition persisted after 10:16 of idle. Will continue troubleshooting whenever the parts get here.

Re: Good Wire Source
Fellas,
I order some of this Striveday silicon wire from Amazon. Flexibility seems good, comes in different colors. I ordered a 22 and a 20 AWG side and I think it will be good. Rated to 200C (~400F) so should be good for engine temps.

Re: Good Wire Source
Sounds good.
I ordered a box of 22awg and 20awg Striveday. It said silicon so we'll see how it is. I went with the Striveday because it had a purple/white/grey/brown/orange color scheme that I think might match my sensors a little better.
Will report back!

Re: Brake Identification
Thank you sir! I think that's close, but isn't quite it. I'm pretty sure it's a Porsche caliper though. I'm going to measure everything and see if the rennlist boys can figure it out. Looking at the mounting, it seem like it's right on the factory points... no adapter or anything.

Control Symbol Right
Hey guys, My M635CSi was originally delivered to the german market, as all my controls are in german. The only thing that isn't in german is the "Control Symbol Right" in my gauge cluster, have english words there. I was wondering if this was english in all markets or if this was swapped w...

Good Wire Source
Hey guys, I'm replacing some connectors in the M635 and I'm afraid that some of these wires are just chowdered and brittle well past it. They look to be ~22 gauge to me. Does anyone have a source for nice, silicone insulated wires in various colors? When I find them on the googles the nice stuff is ...

Re: Engine Dying at Idle
Brucey, Thank you for the detailed response. I appreciate the folly of the parts spray-n-pray. Two of four intake boots were cracked and the AFM boots also had a nice split in it, so I thought that was my air leak. While we were in there, I went and switched to the MAF. Afterwords, the thing ran gre...
