The round and the rectangle units are basically the same. You just need the pin outs.The switch should be closed at WOT and idle. This is the E34 M5 unit diagram.

The valve on the housing is simply a spring/piston type arrangement. I believe it can be removed by taking out the massive allen headed plug.
