Welcome to the group, There's plenty of people here speak the 6er language - it can be expensive and heartbreaking but it always seems worth it. There's a wealth of advice and help here - and there are no silly questions - ask whatever you want. What's the story behind the free 6er? There are always...

I just had the same

I've just had the same symptoms - the great performance and shoddy, burbling idle - it was a perished hose connecting the idle valve and the intake manifold - very difficult to see until I removed the boot; then all the hoses and their sins are easily identified.

I'll be checking hoses from now on.

Today was a good day

My 1982 635 passed the Mot today - this is always a reason for celebration, especially now its 23 years old. But more celebrations are necessary; I've finally got rid of my front end shimmy :D :D :D To do this I'd previously replaced the front discs and pads and upper thrust arms - this reduced it f...

Also, body-colored side mirrors - a HUGE difference!!! Some 635's didn't come with a front/rear spoilers, it seems like the M cars had flares (though I couldn't swear they are factory - nothing in my records says they aren't) I think you're confusing the differences between the early cars - all the...

Not wishing to contradict Brucey - who as we all know is an oracle on most Six things; But I've just received a September 1986 complete BMW range price list with all the cost options for all the models. All prices in GBP RRP (including basic price, car tax and VAT); 628 22,765; 635 28,975; M635 38,9...

I gave up on fuel economy for the looks and the drive a long time ago - nearly every one at work has a laugh at my household fuel economy - with a 5 litre Rover V8 and 7 litres of BMW, the 1.8 S3 Audi looks positively frugal.

what's the difference between a "schwartz" and "diamantschwarz"?. I know diamantschwarz is metallic, I presume schwarz is not. But with a black interior - I'd go red - they look simply stunning - I've been staring at sixers for year and I'm still amazed at the red and black comb...

Job done - a very quick and easy insurance policy for that fragile chain and tensioner - it instantly sounds a lot better at low revs and when cold.

Many thanks Ian.

Ditto for the AA.

The guys are good mechanics, they cover the person not the car, and they have a solid lone female policy which is gold dust as far as I'm concerned.

BTW I fitted high brightness bulbs (50% brighter etc...) and the standard headlights are still rubbish. If I can get a set of ellipsoids cheap then those will be tried, but otherwise its goingto have to be Xenons. I don't know what bulbs are fitted in either car but the standard lamps in my 1985 M6...

If you get new rubbers (huh huh) make sure they have fabric reinforcement in them- some pattern ones don't, and are feeble rubbish.
I completely agree - the all rubber ones seem to perish in no time at all - and its just another PITA to do it again.
