M30B34 Exhaust Valve Rocker Arm to Cam Clearance
I have a great admiration for Brucey's unparalleled knowledge of the E24. I will be adjusting the valves on my 1985 635CSI soon and note that Brucey recommends adjusting the exhaust valve rocker to cam at .010" rather than the generally accepted .009". I am curious to know if others are fo...

Re: Does this seem like a bad ABS Relay?
Update on my ABS intermittent light issue. Thanks for all your good advice. I removed and cleaned the rear sensors and toothed rings and cleaned the front ones also although they were quite new. I think one of the rear sensors had collected a bit of iron dust. I blew out all the crud with an air gun...

In Canadian $'s (and to us in Canada a $ is still a $) the car did sell for just shy of $20000 ! Recall that the car was listed on kijiji for $30000 or more this past summer. I think a little time spent on cleaning the undersides, better photos and a couple of videos showing that everything was work...

Does this look like a 33k mile 635CSI?
I have been watching this auction on BaT website. The owner claims it has only 33k miles on the odometer, was never winter driven on salted roads and was always stored winters and kept in dry storage. To me the car appears to have been undercoated with oily rustproofing several times and has more ru...

Pod and others, Thanks for the advice. I will clean and test the sensors and brush any debris from the rings during my winter layover work.

If a wheel sensor is faulty why would the light remain off for many miles and then shut off and not come on again when the ignition switch is cycled?

Does this seem like a bad ABS Relay?
I took my 1985 635CSi on an errand a few days ago. The ABS light came on shortly after driving off. At one stoplight I shut the ignition key to off and restarted the car and the light remained on. At the second stop I shut the ignition off and restarted the car and the light went out and remained ou...

Re: Temperature gauge indication - running too cool?
Think this might provide some guidance... http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=27431 Yes the gauge is definitely reading low or the gauge is accurate and the engine is running too cool. I live in a climate where I drive my 635CSi in below freezing temperatures and with a 195F thermostat the ga...

Re: Oil change before or after winter lay-up
Rain? It ha s been snowing off and on for about 3 days here. No salt on the roads yet so I still have time. I have Valvoline 20/50 Racing in the Bimmer so I may change it out and save it for my Mercedes 190E as it is still useable in my opinion.

Re: Oil change before or after winter lay-up
I change oil on my 635CSi in the fall just after a good highway sprint to get the oil hot. I store my car for 5-6 months as winters are long where I live. I have only 1200km on the oil in the car but I worry about acid oand other contaminants in the oil even with those low KM's so perhaps I am overl...

I really miss the women clerks at the local NAPA store but unfortunately they retired or quit after new owners took control. They would find such obscure parts such as light bulbs for the 1930's Trippe lamps on my Packard or ignition pieces for my 1947 Nash. The boxes had been lying around for years ...

Removing rear side window "recess seal with plate"
I have a project with my 1985 635CSi which involves replacing the left side rear window. There is an explanation on the BMW Mobile Traditions ( Malloc ) website that is very explanatory but lacking in certain details. The lower chrome trim piece must be removed. It is referred to as the "outer ...

Indeed Cristmas can be a very sad time of year. My younger sister and her husband were killed in August by a drunk driver so this year will be especially sad one for her young children and other family members. I try to stay positive and rather than give unnecessary gifts to my wife and visa versa w...

Re: Clutch Master Cylinders breaking?
I removed the pedal box yesterday expecting to find a crack somewhere. It is in perfect condition with no signs of stress crack. Not sure what to do now except to install it all back together with my spare master cylinder and see what happens. The new master was a Febri and the previous one that bro...

Re: Clutch Master Cylinders breaking?
Rob, Thanks for your quick reply and insight. The clutch worked fine up to the time the pedal went to the floor the first time. I installed a used but good master but I am hesitant to hook it up and test it after destroying a second new one after only two depressions of the pedal. My instinct tells ...

Clutch Master Cylinders breaking?
On a recent road trip the clutch pedal went to the floor during an upshift and then stayed there! I managed to get the car home and found that the clutch master cylinder was broken. The rod was flopping around loose. I ordered a new one and installed it. I bled the system and the clutch pedal was ba...

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
I went to a car show about 70 miles away yesterday. Lovely trip until just as I was leaving the town where the show was held the clutch pedal hit the floor and the car stayed in gear! Pretty obvious that a master or slave cylinder crapped out. No fluid leak so I drove it about 60 miles back home on ...

Re: Proper cold storage tips for the Shark needed.
You might want to consider some type of rodent control if you are storing the car in a barn. I have been using clothes dryer softener sheets such as Bounce for several years in my winter stored cars and motor home. I place them under the dash, on the carpets and upholstery and under the hood around ...
