Its more important that the front/rear overall diameters are similar. The width/aspect ratio can be all over the place as long as your front rear diameters are close. Otherwise you will trigger a fault in the abs. My car had 245 45 16s in the front and 245 50 16s in the back when I bought it. It tri...

I have 16x8 rims with 225 55s on the front and 16x9 with 245 50s on the back. It seems to be a good staggered setup. The diameters are the same and they look just right to me.

Parallel Flow Condenser

My M635's tube and fin condenser sprang a leak so I decided to follow Texas Greg Massey's lead and step into the 90's! Between the months of January and November, the South Carolina heat and humidity get the best of you. I ordered a parallel flow condenser from radiatorbarn.com. I installed it today...

85 M635 with stock suspension, no SLS accumulators. I will pull off a rear wheel this weekend and see if the offset is stated anywhere on the wheel. Either way I will measure the backspace.

I am running 255/50 Goodyear Eagle HP tires on 16x9 Jongbloeds, I am not sure of the offset, but they don't rub at all.

Clutch MC

If you are pulling the brake master cylinder off, I would go ahead and replace the clutch master cylinder while you are at it. There is barely enough room to replace the clutch MC without removing the brake MC. It could save you a huge headache in the future. They fail with no warning too. There was...

Thanks for the replies. I will check the rear sensors again, but I suspect the tire sizes are the cause of the fault.

Tire diameter/ABS?

When I bought my M635 it came with 245/45-16 tires on 8 inch rims and 255/50-16 tires on 9 inch rims. Above 80 mph, the ABS light comes on. Is this a result of the difference in tire diameter or could it be something else? All the sensors look good. Its the only time the light comes on.

extreme cooling test!

The last three days have been unusually miserable even for South Carolina, 99 degrees each day and so much humidity that it looks hazy outside. Nevertheless, my nifty new radiator just hums along with the temp needle pointing straight up to 12 o'clock. Inching along in traffic (blacktop, a/c on high...

I have an 85 M635 with one of his stroker motors. He also performed all the service for the first 80,000 miles. Reviewing the records shows he is meticulous to say the least. I have emailed him a couple of times with questions and he is extremely knowledgeable and eager to help. Whatever advice he g...

You are right. The tubes are different sizes and you would think it would have different size fittings, but no! I dug in there yesterday and they are both 8mm. Thanks for looking into it.

Condenser fittings question

Are the fittings on the stock condenser both size 8 male fittings or are they size 8 and 6?

I am with you Brucey. I would trade that slight savings in weight for durability anyday. I wish I could yank those weight saving aluminum shift forks and synchros out of my transmission and stick those old heavy bronze and brass parts back in there. I would suffer through with the extra weight!

As you may have gathered, I hate BMW radiators. That includes the last one that failed in my E24 and the 3 that crapped out in my E38. All the aluminum and plastic ones are the same and are going to fail (two materials that react differently to heat and pressure). It is a poor design that I bet has ...

My new radiator fits perfectly and has for now (its only 60 degrees outside) cured my overheating problem. I will update the group as soon as we have a nice hot day and I get stuck in traffic.

Radiator

I did in fact install a 70 degree thermostat and it worked great while I was moving. Stop and go traffic sent the temp gauge right up again. The lower running temp helped by giving me a buffer before it approached the red but ultimately it was the same. The lower temp switches (82,91) also helped a ...

Radiator Upgrade!

I recently purchased an '85 M635 with a Frank Fahey Stroker motor. Living in Charleston, SC, it has a tendency to overheat. I addressed all the usual suspects: new fan clutch, new thermostat, lower temp aux fan switches, I even bridged the aux fan switches and, although each helped, I still drove in...
