Best contact cleaner for instrument panel?

I picked up an old E28 instrument panel (for its Euro gauges) a few months ago from a seller in Latvia. Almost 500k km, but it looks to be in pretty good condition, and after breaking it down, I can see someone has serviced it in the past. There are non-original odometer gears and the SI board batte...

Re: My´83 Euro BMW 635 CSI

That's why I spent the $$ on the Hella Bifocus H1 setup. In truth, any of the "Euro" headlight setups is more than sufficient, for just about anything except the 24-hours of Le Mans. It's the US sealed-beams that are a danger to us all. Keep it below 50mph at night, or you're over-driving ...

Sorry, that's a job I've never done, and I'm happy to keep it that way. Maybe there's something on YouTube? Worth a try.

Re: WTB: Seat belt receptacles

It's the mount at the bottom which causes the problem - it's bent in the opposite direction on the sports v. comforts. These are the comfort receptacles I had - note how the mount is bent - you want the opposite: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-nkq9vgr/0/49c5d3e5/L/i-nkq9vgr-L.jpg There are vari...

Wow, what a story. I'd be sleeping in his driveway, though, until it was mine. I wouldn't want the seller changing his mind. We definitely need to see some pics.

Re: What is this? Found in evaporator area

Update: Got the probe back in today, with very little effort. The opening is on the left upper side of the heater box, facing straight toward the rear of the car - thus, the probe faces straight forward. It's not a super-snug fit, so I used a little caulking to hold it in place for good.

Re: another new guy

A V8 in an E24 would be interesting, but a lot more work than I'm planning. I'm hoping for an S54, as it's almost a drop-in and I'd be doing it myself.

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

I'm glad you're getting close to the end of this project/ordeal, and I also enjoy the satisfaction I get from completing such things myself. But, I think you may have gotten a bit "hosed" on the cost of those hoses. There's probably a significant difference in cost of parts and labor betwe...

Re: What is this? Found in evaporator area

I believe that's true, but I haven't found the hole yet, which is reportedly in the heater box. This reply on myE28.com has some interesting detail:

Re: Replacing center console (HVAC) bulbs

Mine just arrived, and it looks perfect for the backlight on the OBC buttons. The end of the bulb has to fit through a hole in a metal plate, and nothing else I tried would work. Not sure on the brightness, but I'll find out tonight. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-hJMTsFZ/0/dc1aa888/L/i-hJMTsFZ...

Re: acquired a nice PARTS car. NC. 1980 633csi auto. need anything?

Hi Carl:

Just got the side mirror trim triangles - super-quick shipping - Thanks. The better of the two is much better than the worse on on my car, and the worse one (not too bad) is about the same as my better one. So, this worked out very well for my car. Thanks again.

Re: Replacing center console (HVAC) bulbs

I ordered everal diferent types, as mentioned, because they're cheap, and I'm not sure what works well and what doesn't. For the instruments and OBC, I ordered these (in white): http://www.ebay.com/itm/T5-Car-B8-5D-LED-Speedo-Dashboard-Dash-Wedge-Side-Light-Bulb-Lamp-Blue-DC-12V/291644462091?ssPageN...

Re: Replacing center console (HVAC) bulbs

Well, finally got around to this task, as I had the center console out for a headunit replacement. For the bulb on the right, remove both of the switches (A/C fan and Hazard). With your right hand feed the bulb holder up into the dash, and with your left index finger in the top switch hole, pin the ...

Re: FS: Auto-Dim rear view mirror, Homelink & Compass

I thought I'd post a few pics of how the wiring for one of these mirrors can be done, and it's not as scary as I thought it was when I bought one of these mirrors a few years ago. The pics sre of my E24, but E28 and 30 are of course very similar. I poked a hole about the size of my pinkie finger thr...

What do you need exactly when you say "headlights"? I ask because I have a set of Euro H4/H1 lights I just took out of my 635, and they're priced at less than 1/2 the cost of new. What I mean by lights is just the lights themselves, not the buckets, trim rings, etc. These: https://photos.s...

Well, the eBay seller must have found an orange one to send, as I just got the shipping details - we'll see what shows up.
