Last night I did some more research----
I misread the listing as it says it is not "plug and play" but requires a wiring adapter.
Reviews on the Blaupunkt radios wasn't so good

So I'm searching for a good alternative.....

Real brass body and an interchangeable solenoid. Should be bulletproof. Zip tie it to the firewall and you're good to go!

Modern Blaupunkt Radio

I just read somewhere (but due to my failing memory) that Blaupunkt makes a replacement for the 6'er ratio that is a simple replacement without any wiring nonsense. Would love to swap out my cassette player for a modern unit with ipod connections, nav, etc. Don't need a screen that pops up and out. ...

Don,
Awesome guide as to proper restoration, even if replacing the body panels to assure minimal rust in the future.
Many thanks!

Those look like the inlet valves on clothes washing machines (there are separate hot and cold) or the low voltage sprinkler valves.

All,
Somehow that second post was erroneously attributed to me. Likely to be Ralph's or Da Hoses'.
But anyway, great detective work from all of you.

So you are saying the Bosch rebuild kit that is at BAV 64 11 8 390 132 for $144.95 is crap?

Oly,
Can you describe your rust proofing methods and materials in your restoration?
Are there areas that should be vented to allow rinse and rain water to drain promptly?

I don't think you will need brackets as the air channels have "ears" on them with holes through which the fastener goes. All you will need are holes in the sheet metal for a sheet metal screw. Don't make it too tight or you will snap the plastic ear off of the part.

From Ralph in SoCal from another post: Inconsistent functioning during speed - I had the same exact issue with a 633 a few years back. I found that at speed, the heater would not work very well. On a long trip back from Vegas I tried a couple of experiments on the fly. I found out that the heater wo...

What does your temp gauge show? The t-stat may be sticking open letting all that toasty coolant cool down at high way speeds.

I just replaced a cracked one on my 84 633. There are 3 or 4 screws that goes through one of those body nuts. You know, those folded pieces of sheet metal with a hole in it. For part numbers, go to Realoem. Easy job if you have a 1/4 socket with a magnetic Phillips head on a swivel or flex joint cau...

A/C Compressor? I have no idea if it fits an 84 633 (no rear air) with VIN 6997510. Realoem is confusing the hell out of me as it is showing several compressors. I'm going to convert to R-134 from R12 anyway.

Do Torx bolts come in strength grades like cap screws? Would a cap screw be a better solution as you can get a box wrench fully around it?

To Desktop Dave- I don't think we "heavily subsidize" our infrastructure as we pay motor fuel taxes, tolls, registration fees, etc. The other parts of the known universe see high taxes as a deterrent to vehicle use particularly as they are often based on engine size. They also use the taxe...

When I looked at the fuel consumption which starts at about 1gph I realized I don't generate enough waste. So the next search is for a propane or gas fired infra-red heater and there are some small ones in the 25,000BTUHr range. Some need a 100 lb bottle min but others can be piped into my street ga...

Parting Out - a Crime or a Punishment?

Guys, While I know that parting out cars is part of the eco-sphere of vehicles that take too much time or too much money to support, I get the feeling that many of you will say 10 or 20 yrs from now "I should have kept that thing which is now worth 100K! What was I thinking" Maybe we need ...

So I bought a replacement 3-prong flasher from Standard Motor parts listed as EFL8T from Rock Auto. No flash, no nada. Got another one as a warranty replacement, still nada.
Any ideas as the original still lights up either side but doesn't flash....

Waste Oil Fired Space Heater

Does anyone have any recommendations for burning waste oil to heat my garage when I need to work there in the winter? Otherwise I'd just go with either a propane bottle heater or a "torpedo-style" heater

A regular oil testing program is done when the oil-in-service reaches it's change point (3k miles or whatever is the program). So if the dealer/seller just did a change, then the test is useless. I used to work for a fleet operator with several thousand Class-8 tractors and the test results plus the...
