Great analysis. Hadn't thought about the car as a curiosity niche item as it is "half-baked".

Re: M635 Chain Tensioner Piston

So just replace with the original set up then? I'm thinking that 32 year old spring is probably tired.

Re: M635 Chain Tensioner Piston

Reviving this thread. If I replace the stock tensioner piston with the S50 version, do I need to keep the diaphragm #30 from the old piston. I read the diaphragm is to smooth out oil pressure pulses and was added to post '85 cars. Sharkfan's M88 didn't have the diaphragm before or after. http://www....

I think you may be a little late if you're looking for an affordable ///M. Especially in Europe.

Re: WTB: E24 Alpina B7 or B10

That quote was from Heidegger, in Europe. That's why I would look for a series II. With that said, If you like the series I cars there are a couple nice B7/1 Turbo coupes available in Europe for much less money than the later version. http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o89/persona-non-grata/_57_zpsg...

Caveat emptor.
e12 Based Alpinas have problematic fuel injection systems; I have seen $12K estimates for factory rebuild.

Bring one of your cars to Cars and Coffee in Lafayette tomorrow. A bunch of the local Bimmer guys are going. Google "Cars and Coffee" Lafayette for info.

I haven't seen any B7 Turbo Coupes for sale in the USA lately. What's your source? Mobile.de is a good source for Euros.

Hot performer. Although to me it looks a little tired for a 50,000+ mile car. I would guess with such heavy modification and visible wear, it's been ridden pretty hard.
just a guess.

Re: Evaluating the M635CSi for purchase

Doc,
post the VIN.

How handy are you with a wrench? These ///M cars get super expensive quick. Even small jobs are costly if you go to a garage. What ever your restoration estimate is, triple it and you'll be in the right ball park.
