Re: Polishing Hella glass fog lights

What type (mfger, material) sandpaper did you use?

Do you think wet sanding would take less time or otherwise have an advantage?

Re: M owners must have.

Got one coming , will let you know how it works. Let us know when it's available for rental. At last year's SoCal Vintage BMW meet in Van Nuys I spoke with Dean Caccavo, who developed this, if I recall correctly. In any case, I remember him saying it was available for loan, with the borrower paying...

Re: Clunking sound when turning steering wheel

Follow-up question: what torque should I apply to the nuts on top of the strut tower? Of the torques listed below, I'd guess that it's the "spring strut mount to wheel house", but correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Clunking sound when turning steering wheel

Looks like the original part number is defunct, and cross-references to a new number. Here is the original # 31331124508 Here is the cross ref. # 31-33-1-139-452 O.K., embarrassingly enough I'm just now getting back to this job, after dealing w/ several jobs on my daily driver. My M6 has only gotte...

Positive feedback for Jay Stratton (JCS)

I recently got a re-built power steering pump from Jay Stratton (username JCS). The pump arrived quickly, was in great shape, and runs perfectly. Jay returned the core deposit by PayPal promptly upon receiving my old pump. Communication via email was timely and informative. Overall A+ experience and...

Re: The expansion tank overflow tube goes where, exactly?

it exits the inner wing via the same holes as the rear brake pipes, and dribbles (if it dribbles) onto the road from there. The end of the tube is (IIRC) slash-cut. Thanks, Brucey. As usual, YOU DA MAN. 8) I got a little too focused on what was going on in the engine bay (actually, playing with the...

The expansion tank overflow tube goes where, exactly?

Yesterday I noticed the rubber overflow hose (#4 in diagram below) from the coolant expansion tank is in bad shape, and will need to be replaced soon. I followed the tube down with a borescope and saw that it "terminates" in a grungy corner of the engine bay (firewall and fender wall). I u...

Re: Power steering reservoir underside grommet

I think it is 3 72 11 119 643 it shows as there being three of these used in the reservoir assy. IIRC the same bush is used where the reservoir bolts on. If so it means that (temporarily) you can use a split one on a bolted connection, and re-use the one from the bolt on the reservoir base. Thanks,...

Power steering reservoir underside grommet

In the course of replacing some leaky power steering hoses I pulled the P/S reservoir out to take a look at it and make sure it's not leaking itself. There's a rubber grommet that fits between the "nub" on the reservoir underside and the mating hole in the bracket. As shown in the pictures...

Another nice M6 sold for $36K

An '87 M6 (88K miles) in nice condition (though lacking "proper" rims, IMHO) just went for $36K on BAT auctions. The market for these beauties is still strong, and likely getting stronger!

Oil analysis - bearing wear? Post your reports!

O.K., let's talk oil analysis. A quick forum search revealed that there's not much discussion about this. I recently had a Blackstone oil analysis done for my E39 M5, since some in that community are concerned about high-mileage S62 rod bearing wear (which should be revealed by lead and copper in th...

John (and Slofut) - is the TRE pump a truly drop-in solution, or is some adapting needed? Any problems with the install?
