Re: Car covers - what brand do you have ?
If you can stretch to it, get one of THESE . I use both internal and outdoor versions and I can highly recommend them! Currently I have a classic, sat outside for 2 years in an exterior bubble. I washed, polished and waxed it beforehand and every time I unwrap the car to fire it up and give it a run...

What HiFi
Having removed the modern (and rather incongruous) after-market head unit and CD changer fitted to my car, I am looking to refit something period-correct and would really appreciate some bigcoupe input. For future reference, it might be useful to compile a list of all the officially supplied (from f...

Re: Starter Issues on Manual Car
Thanks chaps! :)
I have to say I am going to keep the 'BoggieBuzzer' fault finding Gizmo (™) on my 'Might Be Useful One Day' tool shelf. I can see me using it again....
I might add a diode though. :)

Re: Starter Issues on Manual Car
Thanks Chaps, Finally managed to get through and have now ordered the parts (will update the hoses conversation with the current prices). Most are available for collection tomorrow, only a few have to come from Germany (5-10 working days) but of course there are one in the latter list (W shaped vacu...

Re: Starter Issues on Manual Car
I'm really admiring your determination, Ian. Gotta get Sharky started somehow :) Where there is a will... Just need the will of my local BMW dealer to order in all the new hoses as they are all that stand between me and completing the refurb/rebuild of the nearside engine bay They don't answer thei...

Re: Starter Issues on Manual Car
Thanks Brucey, The car is a factory manual so no relay. However, I have resolved the issue! I had a 12v buzzer in the workshop so I soldered a crocodile clip on the negative wire and a leatherwork needle on the positive and insulated all but the last 5mm pointy end with heat shrink. Then I clipped t...

Ahh, thanks Ron.
I hope I won't have to remove the starter again but will bear that in mind if I do.
Cheers,
Ian

Re: Starter Issues on Manual Car
.....I decided to splash out on a shiny new starter today. I removed the old one ( that top bolt is an interesting challenge ) and swapped it for a new item. Use the 17mm./19mm. flat ring spanner from the toolkit. Relatively easy with that! Thanks Ron, good info. I didn't need the tool kit but I ha...

Re: Starter Issues on Manual Car
If you have 12v at the terminal of the black/yellow wire when the key is turned to start, you either have a faulty new starter, or the black/yellow wire is connected to the wrong terminal on the solenoid (the "unloader" circuit). Thanks. I checked the starter by bridging the battery feed ...

Starter Issues on Manual Car
Hi All, Since buying the car the starter has been a little sporadic. Most of the time it was fine but occasionally I would just get a solenoid 'click'. A second (or third) attempt would usually resolve the issue. Naturally I assumed a sticky solenoid was the problem and was planning on either stripp...

Ron, You are a star! I had forgotten the realOEM link you sent me when I first joined the forum. Oh... the hours I have spent looking for this information and it was right under my nose. I owe you a pint! I found exactly what I was looking for but you have to be careful to drill down to the detail a...

UK M635CSI Coolant, Vacuum and Breather Pipes
Thanks to Ron and RealOEM I have finally compiled a list to replace all the ageing rubber pipes and unions I need for my Pre-86 EU M635CSI restoration. So, for those of you looking to replace yours too, here is the list: Note: You will meed 1.5m of 8mm ID hose for the Rad - Expansion Tank - Thermost...

Coolant, Vacuum and Inlet Hoses
Hi All, I am in the UK and looking for the following new parts. Can anyone help? My local BMW dealer are struggling to identify and source them: 1. Full set of all the larger engine bay coolant hoses in the engine bay (between rad and engine, engine and heater matrix, heater matrix/engine to heater ...

Re: M88 Vacuum and Coolant Silicon Hose Kits?
Ian, If you are thinking of ordering a set of these, please order 2 sets as I could do with a set. Thanks. Hi Ron, After stripping the inlet side of engine bay I have decided against these pipes. When I removed the inlet plenum, I was rather pleased to find that there were long intake stacks, rathe...

Re: Finding and testing Heater Valve
Thanks. Good advice.
I have bought a service kit from Pod and hope to have it this weekend, alone with a full new set of coolant, vacuum and breather hoses. the engine is stripped of throttle bodies, plenum, all hoses and intake tubes ready for a refurb and refit this weekend (hopefully)

Re: Silicon Hoses
OK. Thanks all.
I guess my choices are therefore to make up hoses with silicone pipe components and joiners or go standard.
To be fair the standard hoses will probably last 10+ years, especially with the limited use a restored M635 is likely to have.
I will ring BMW in the morning.

Silicon Hoses
Hi All, I have been searching here and in the wild world web for about an hour but have not found a silicon hose kit for coolant and vacuum hose replacement. I can (probably) get stock hoses from my local BMW dealer but I would rather fit silicon and fill it with Evans so I don't have soever touch t...

Re: Help with high idle
Regardless of the shop finding no vacuum leaks, there HAS to be one, and a big one at that, since you can cover the air intake and it still runs. There's no other way. Seconded! And IF the leak is the source of luminous then the leak has to be downstream of the MAF. I always used carb or brake clea...

Re: M635CSI (EU M6) Brake Upgrade Advice
Thanks Chaps, That is about as much as I thought too. However, the car was definitely originally sold to a company as I have the paperwork. I assume the cherished number either belonged to the company's or the driver (I am guessing he was quite high up in the company considering the cost of these ca...

Re: Finding and testing Heater Valve
I love you guys! Thanks so much. Re: Finding and testing Heater Valve
Yes, of course. I did that last night and after trawling the results I found out some of what I needed but not where the actual valve is. I am guessing behind the dashboard somewhere but was hoping somebody might be able to help me.
Thanks,
Ian

Finding and testing Heater Valve
Hi All, After servicing the car I brought the old girl up to temperature for the first time today. All seemed well with no leaks, no exhaust smoke and a nice smooth idle. However I am getting no heat in the cabin. First point of call is to check the heater valve operation and wiring. Can anyone help...

Thanks Chaps! They are the very seats! Although in my car they are red. So, mystery solved :) Here are mine after removing, deep cleaning and 2 treatments of Liquid Leather feed. Another coat in a week then leather seal to finish them off.... http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff500/ianbeushaw/M635...
