Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

I just wanted to say thanks for this outstanding thread. I enjoyed it so much that I subscribed to the forum (they owe you $25....). You make owning one of these cars seem approachable, and the contributions from you and others on this forum are the only way that owning one would be even partly fea...

Re: '84 633CSi back on the road after 5 yrs sitting

Song, try Leatherique on the upholstery. That stuff can revive leather the consistency of cardboard. I have tried something like that. I've soaked my seats to the point that my interior windows are all greasy as it gasses off in the sun. I've also tried this stuff called Obenauf's leather condition...

Re: '84 633CSi back on the road after 5 yrs sitting

Cool to see her back on the road. I have a car of the same vintage. I wondering what the fiasco in the interior was? I find myself contemplating some interior updates. My seat seams are splitting in a few areas. I'm trying to figure out if I should just re-do it all or try to save the original leath...

Brain Transplant - ECU swap

So my car was experiencing some rough running some mornings and I remembered way back when that I had purchased a Programa ECU and put it in my spare parts bin when my car seemed OK. I mean, why fix something that isn't broken right? Well, my recent swap of the Cruise Control computer reminded me of...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Nice one Song. =D> Question: While the CC computer was out, did you notice the behaviour of the OBC display? Was it functioning as normal, or were the speed & distance related functions dashed (---) out? Mine is dashed out for all trip-related functions, but the date, time & temperature dis...

Issue Resolved with used eBay unit

I just wanted to wrap up this post and let folks know that my issue was resolved with a replacement unit from an eBay seller. I got mine for all of $28! There were lots of units available in a huge range of prices. I even saw an available new old stock for $550. A little bit of investigation and all...

Clacking Sound Under Hood - Cruise Control Unit

About a week back, I was alarmed to hear a loud clacking noise under my hood. It took a while to figure out that it was not mechanical, but a malfunctioning cruise control computer! I would happen whenever I turned the ignition key. The motor did not need to be running. I found the solution in anoth...

Re: Clanking in Park that stops when brake pressed

I believe I have just answered my own question. I drove home today and noticed that clacking sound continues even with my car shut off! I turned the key on and off several times and realized that it was the Cruise control making all the sound and I could see the cable vibrating at the throttle body....

Re: Starter is not starting car with key.

+1 on the ignition switch. Mine had the same issue. One thing you can check is cranking the starter by jumping a few pins (11 &14 - if I recall correctly) on the diagnostic port. When my switch was failing I would use this jumper wire technique to crank up my car for the drive home. Basically pu...

Clanking in Park that stops when brake pressed

As I parked my car after morning commute, I noticed a clanking noise coming from the front of the car. It would stop when I depressed the brake. It appears to only happens when I am in "Park" for now. I have an automatic transmission with a ZF 4 speed. If I shift into any other gear, the s...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

I think I am lucky living in AZ if a car is 1979 or older, or has classic car insurance, we don't have to be smogged opening up a bunch of doors and windows. I removed the little bit of smogging that was done on my car when it came in from Europe. With my pumped up motor, I don't think I would ever...

Re: Should I? A 840csi available in my area

Besides the mentioned electrical issues, better check to see if it has a nikasil or alusil engine before you buy. They’re nicely designed cars but have the potential to be a real money pit. Well, this may be a foregone conclusion. I made an inquiry to see the car and the seller never got back to me...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Song, etc, low priced Dino oil is 1 thing and not always the answer. But the M30 thrives on oil with ZDDP(zinc) in it. The more the merrier. So when buying oil, c heck the label. Valvoline Dino has a lot of it . Appreciate the tip. i think the O'Reilly oil is fine. It's manufactured by a big oil co...

Should I? A 840csi available in my area

Ok, this isn't a Shark related question, but I am trying to decide whether or not I should enter into a new world of pain. Very near me, I have discovered an 840csi for sale for less than $5K. It's not running and has 150K miles. It doesn't look horrible in pictures, but I am sure it's going to need...

Oil Change Day - O-Reilly's Dino Oil

Looking at my service logs, I realized that I had not changed the oil since my accident, discovering that my car had been running rich and having issues due to the broken resistor in the temp sensor. Since that spendy repair (due to the towing and plugs at the independent mechanics), I've checked my...

Maybe later I'll touch up the visible rusty spots Song, you should go back, remove the new tips and coat all of the rusted areas with POR-15 :-" It comes in lots of colors, including a version of silver that I used on the rusted portions of my brake rotors \:D/ Otherwise, looks great =D> I was...

Weird Side Effect of a Car with Active Exhausts

So I was sitting in traffic behind a BMW X1. I was really surprised at the state of the exhaust pipes. The one one the left was very dark, which seems normal. The one on the right looked like it was a fake exhaust as it was completely shiny inside! Active Exhaust.png As this was a long commute, I st...

Are the new tips shorter than the ones you took off? Look a heck of a lot better than the old ones did. No, these were the OEM BMW tips. It was exactly the same as the ones I took off. New Exhaust Tips

I've tried to use exhaust paint to refinish my exhaust tips and it didn't work. I tried to bend out the scraped flatted side and the metal tore. So it was time for some new tips. I wondered if it was going to be hard to get off as it seemed like there's been some rust and other buildup. It turns out...

Leather Steering Wheel Refresh

So as I have been driving my car, almost 1,000 miles since the broken resistor wire incident, I noticed that the left side of my steering wheel feels rough. Upon closer inspection, you can see where the years of sun through the driver window and general touch and contact has caused some of the leath...

Comical Restoration Attempt - Stickers
