I've been watching closely and if it's off, it's really a tiny bit. So far, my GPS and my speedo are pretty much in sync. I'll keep watching though.

Re: Craftsman Tools Are Not What They Used to Be

if you are handy with a hammer, or use a bench vice, you can often close up a slightly flared wrench of that sort. Better that, than a cheap new wrench...? cheers Brucey, I read you comment and thought, "Who is NOT handy with a hammer?" LOL! It's not one of those tools that takes a lot of...

Re: 1987 635csi 5-speed / long time lurker introduction

I got a speed awl from Amazon and sewed up my own. Of course, it was not as severe. I have noticed that the leather on these cars are pretty darn sturdy. I mean after 30+ years, my passenger seat leather is still pretty supple. I wish I could say the same for the driver side. One day, I'll have to d...

Thanks to Ralph, I now have a good set of climate control switches. It wasn't as bad as expected as far as install time, but I'm definitely going to have to find out why it's binding at the flap on the upper and lower switch when slid to the right. They are lubed heavily but still give more resista...

New shoes (tires) today

I've run my tires down to the cords. It's been raining in California and I've skidded a few too many times in my commute. So today I got some new tires. I chose to be true to the German heritage and got some Continentals. With my non-stock wheels, I ended up with 225/55 x 16. These are Continental C...

Re: Raining Red Pixie Dust

Brucey, is the front part accessed by removing the panel that the sunvisors are mounted on? I've got another weird problem where I can feel a chunk of something behind the headliner material just to the left of the drivers head. I don't know if the foam liner can harden and break off in chunks over ...

Rear Sub-Frame, Trailing Arms, Anti Roll Bars, and other assortments now sand blasted. Just need to replace all the Bushes, Wheel Bearings and ABS Sensors. Wow, so nice and clean looking. How are you planning to finish it? This makes me want to take my car all apart and....no, never mind. I'm just ...

The Hillbilly fix

Haha, not sure copying my "fix" was the finest thing to take away from all my efforts. Recall that I ended up replacing the SI board with an OEM BMW board. When the service lights still didn't cooperate, that's when I went all DefCon 4 on it and instigated the "Hillbilly fix". Al...

I went through a period of swapping out all the bulbs in the car. I just assumed they were all about to go and changed all of them. I got super ripped off on the bulb behind the OBC. Parts shop sold me a Mercedes unit for $27. That's for one bulb! I was in a jam that day and said, "screw it&quo...

I would replace both. there were a bunch from factory with correct part # on box but E30 variants inside, so beware. i got mine from PP a couple years ago and they replaced. Be sure to connect them correctly. One should have a cable tie or similar both ends to help identifying which goes where. You...

Looking good! It's so nice when it all comes together. I wish I had room for bigger speakers in back. Alas, I just kept it all stock. Sounds good enough for phone calls and for music during the commute. BTW - I was struggling with a no start problem the past few days. I've got it licked now. It was ...

Re: Very perplexing no start/spark issue.

Wanted to close the loop on my no spark issue. The bad speed sensor was in fact the problem. Ralph sent along a replacement and I put it in this evening. The car fired right up. I can say with absolute certainty that my car will not run with a faulty speed sensor. I also recorded this event in my pr...

Well, I am glad to report that the e24 is running again. I can say with absolute conviction that my car will not run with a faulty speed sensor. Re: Distributor Cap HT lead positions

I replaced my distributor cap with an aftermarket one when I had my rotor woes about 6 months ago. Neither my original Bosch or the aftermarket cap had the black cover. Is it just a heatshield or what? It doesn't seem like it would get that hot since it's in the path of the air (although I guess it'...

I also note you have the DMM in manual range mode. Set it to auto mode and try those checks again Hm, I wasn't aware that I was in manual mode. How did I even do that? I just pressed the yellow button and rotated the knob to ohms. I thought that was how I would get it to beep and hold the reading e...

Errrrrr, Song. Why is your engine drenched with water ? You noticed!? I am trying to do this while it is raining. Re: Very perplexing no start/spark issue.

Hi Song, it sounds like you have a duff sensor; the only thing I wondered was if that sensor has a resistance slightly over 1000 ohms, and the DVM is set to 1000 ohm range, the meter may just read 'over range' which often looks a lot like it is reading 'infinity'. If this is a possibility then I'd ...

Re: Very perplexing no start/spark issue.

Brucey, So I have performed a few tests today and I sent you a PM as well. I didn't get to the ECU part of the diagnostic because I found cause to be concerned with one of the sensors. My understanding is that either of the sensors being bad can cause a no start (or no spark, which is what I have). ...

Faulty speed and reference sensor?

Allright forum members, I think I have found the issue but wanted to check a few things before I spend the money throwing parts at this. I believe that my Speed and/or Reference sensors may be bad. Re: Very perplexing no start/spark issue.

'no hot start ' is easily diagnosed as being one (or more) of three things; A- no spark B- no injector function C- no fuel pressure The actions required to address each are obviously going to be completely different to one another and will also vary with the age of the car because the parts fitted ...

No Spark, No Start

After driving along quite well for a week and over 150 miles, this morning my car wouldn't start. It was fine when I drove it home and parked it last night! I guess I should be thankful that it died while parked in my driveway. I did a couple of quick checks and I do not seem to be getting spark any...
