Well there's your problem right there https://66.media.tumblr.com/1a002eaa3d9621efa013c903bbf4bc5a/82872fbabfdce6e8-02/s540x810/0059566a4ba989d15cf2ccff7fe5d08571433962.jpg It's going to be a couple of days before I can solder this back up sans resistor, but thank you Ralph for pointing me this way...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

White smoke, I would do a compression test on the cylinders. Usually white smoke is antifreeze related. Where all the plugs wet? Yes, I though it was white as well. That's why I was confused when people kept telling me it was running rich and that would have black smoke. No the plugs not wet, but w...

Re: '83 633CSi - running so rich it stalls

No Song. This sensor (CTS) provides input to the ecu for running conditions at startup or while at running temp. Symptoms you described indicated fuel supply cut off. The cut wire results in poor running from too much fuel as the ecu defaults to full rich to prevent engine damage Ralph OK, the shop...

Rich or Lean, or Something Else?

So a video is worth a thousand words. Here's a video I made of my car on startup and idling. This was a few weeks ago before the intermittent no-start and stalling got really bad. https://photos.app.goo.gl/7GUaM3USnE9iQkkP8 At this time, many think my car is running rich. The strong exhaust smell an...

Re: '83 633CSi - running so rich it stalls

Easy peasy. Well done Ralph Hmm, I just came across this Ralph. I didn't check mine before sending it off to the shop since i didn't know about it a few days ago. Is there a way to bypass this sensor so that the cold start injector never comes on? I'm just wondering if I can tell the shop to test i...

Re: Rough idle/ misfire on an 85

Well, I just discovered this thread and am following it with interest. My car is running horribly and having various start issues. After doing tons of diagnostics and parts swapping, I finally had my car towed to the mechanics. I just didn't have time (or the weather) to mess with it and I wanted to...

Re: And you wonder why the front sills and floor rust ?

I have to second the above comment. Thanks so much. With the clear pictures as a guide, I’ll tackle mine - if the rain here in Northern California ever stops. Meanwhile, I get to empty buckets of water on a regular basis. I filled a 2 gallon bucket over the course of a day!

Flashlight Fix and a Ride to the Shop

So before I sent my car off to the shop, I decided to fix my flashlight. It's been in the car for years and not working. I finally saw a repair kit on Etsy and ordered it from Poland. Also, I can fix a flashlight inside, away from the ridiculous rain. So here's how it went. First to get the light op...

Re: Time for a visit to the Car Doctor

Well, I have tried as much as I have time for. I need to get my car back on the road and I am too busy and there's too much rain. Today I received a new Bosch Speed Sensor and also the Programa ECU. I tried the ECU first, no change. Then I tried the new sensor. No change. It's weird, but here's wha...

Swimming in my Passenger Footwell?

So California is experiencing one atmospheric river after another. My shark is sitting there getting a free car wash. When the weather let up a bit, I noticed my windows were fogged, like there was water in the car. A quick investigation and I was not so shocked to see that the foam under my carpets...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Check your main relay. Bypass it with the double wire bypass per Bruceys post The jumper bypasses all ecu functions and provides power to the fuel pumps directly. Weird that you can make the pump run when the car is not running but doesn't work otherwise. I know you recently replaced it but somethi...

Re: HELP - Fuel Problem

Song, I read your other post too. This sounds like a classic fuel pressure issue. Symptoms: 1. It won't start without manual pump (lack of pressure to start) 2. It starts after manually jumping the pump for 5-10secs (to pressurise the rails) 3. It dies shortly after starting (lack of pressure to ke...

Re: HELP - Fuel Problem

I'd start at the pump, and double check that your not getting the voltage. It could be the pump. First, I appreciate your reply. I replaced the fuel pump with a new Bosch unit in February 2022. So it's only been about 10 months. I don't think that's the culprit. Also I did a lot of tests with regar...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Try letting the car run off the jumper only. If it runs then the relay is the issue. Not specifically a bad relay but possibly the electrical connections for the relay. Getting continuity to ground does not mean it's good enough for the load created by the relay If the issue persist with the jumper...

Help - Fuel Delivery Issue!

I've been fighting a no fuel issue. Mainly a recurring no-start and then when it does start, it runs terribly and then often dies. Then the no-start kicks in again. I spent several days checking all systems and have gotten down the this odd repeatable condition. I can get the car to start and run fo...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Oof. Hopefully something simple, and it sounds electrical. If you’d like to swap over ECUs or sensors, my ‘83 is parked up for a bit and doesn’t need them short term. I think I’ll take you up on this. I’m at my wits end. Been testing all kinds of things the past days and all checks out. Aren’t you ...

I hadn't seen his post before and I agree with "Pod" that is is very well presented.
It also happens to be exactly what I was looking for as I troubleshoot a very poor running condition.

All is not well…

Well, while trying to run errands the other day, the car died. After help from the local police to push the car out of traffic, I fiddled under the hood and it started, so I was able to get home. I later went to troubleshoot and when trying to move the car into a decent position, it died again. This...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Song, Isn't there an injector for the cold start system? And did you change the fuel line to that injector which others say imperils the engine as it could leak? Ah, the "little perisher". I did replace that fuel line quite a while back. Interesting that you brought that up. I noticed tha...

Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Installing a catch can is a good idea. Will stop all that oil gunking things up. You just have to remember to regularly drain and clean it out. Some photos of how I plumbed mine - I flipped the rubber inlet boot to avoid crossing the hoses. Thanks for the pictures. That looks like a clean setup. Th...

New Fuel Injectors

When I got this car, I bought a rebuild kit and did my best to recondition the original injectors. Now, that I have put over 50,000 miles on the car, I figured it's time to upgrade. I've also been battling an occasional rough idle and I want to eliminate the injectors as a possibility. So by happens...
